Michigan Hatchers! What'cha got cookin?

Day 24 of incubation and 7 out of 34 eggs left in incubator. I'm going to do the float test to see if there is anything still alive then do eggcropsy. I don't think that is too bad since I had a power outage on the first day of lockdown.

I hope I don't jinx myself, but the 2 india blue peafowl eggs I got from a neighbor are developing nice veins! This is my first time ever time incubating peafowl. They should hatch June 15-18th.
I have 12 eastern wild turkey eggs in that bator too, I had to toss 2 of the 14 last night as they were early quitters. Due June 14th.
Then I have BCM, BOrp, and SSussex due to hatch June 8.
Just set 14 more BCM yesterday that should hatch June 16th.

Mama took baby out for the first time today!

Awwww!!! Is that the proud papa there also?
Well....it's the papa of that coop at least! The egg that chick hatched from what collected a couple of days after I culled my white silkie cockerel. My understanding is that white is recessive in silkies, so unless my blue partridge boy is hiding it, he's not the biological papa.

We'll see how they manage to get back in the coop; it's quite a jump up to get over the kick board that keeps the shavings from falling out.

I did my eggcropsy tonight. I used Gail Damererow's book Hatching and Brooding your own chicks as a reference. I am guesstimating the day of death? One was day seven it was a BCM egg so it was hard to see in the shell, three were day about day eighteen, from the amount of yolk left. That is the day I lost power. Three were day twenty to twenty one. No internal pips. I didn't think I would be able to do an eggcropsy but it was very interesting to see the different stages of incubation.

Hi, everyone. I bought my first pair of silkies and the hen was a laying machine for about a month. I took nine of her eggs to a local guy who incubates for .50 per hatched egg!! Anyway, he candled on day 10 and only 3 were viable. The 3 are due to hatch tomorrow. Then my BO went broody and I purchased marans and a couple OE eggs to put under her. They gave me 18 eggs for a doz purchase. I chose to put 13 under her, and we're down to 10 eggs now and on day 15. I know I have some alive, but the darker marans are hard to candle, so I have my fingers crossed. And the little egg laying machine blue silkie went broody, so I put 5 of her own eggs under her and when I candled on day 5, only 2 were alive, so she is sitting on just 2 and we're on day 6. It's looking like I'll definitely have some chicks!! :yiipchick
