Michigan Right to Farm Law, what does it mean?

Does anyone know if there is anyone either from MSU extension or the like that would present at a public forum about the RTFA or chicken keeping in general? With the hoopla in Midland that has started as a result of the two articles CaraBear posted, we want to turn our issue into one between the township and the state, not the township and us. We are hoping to host a public forum and perhaps bring in speakers that will help educate the public about their rights, the GAAMPS and chicken keeping in general.

I would try Kurt Schindler, the land-use guru from MSU Extension. I attended a MSUE program offered by him last month, and it was terrific:

What about taxes for "having your own business"... or for items sold.. Are there a ton of extra taxes?..and dues for whatever they can make up?

Good question Jennriley. I plan on selling eggs to friends at work. (Fulfilling the business aspect of RTF) but wonder about sales tax etc.
Carabear good for you for taking on the township! I'm just waiting for a chicken complaint before stirring the pot with mine. For the time being we were told they are not allowed, but ordinance will not be enforced until there is a complaint.

I figured out how to set up my own business earlier this summer (PM me if you want info on that part), but have not yet had to file taxes - so I don't know how it all plays out.

I have heard that folks with farming operations are not only subject to taxes for what they sell, but are also entitled to some tax breaks in other areas. Would love for someone with more knowledge on these issues to let us all know!

ok, so taylors law is that there is no farm, fowl, or exotic animals allowed. can I use the farm act in anyway to keep my potbelly piglet?

Ok guys, I need some help. Someone has filed a complaint about my chicken! I must get rid of them in 10 days or else the city will take them. I live in Clinton Township, Michigan and I need some suggestions of what to do. Thanks :)
