Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Well I finally gave up on my eggs. I hated to do it but some were clears. What causes clears? I candled no movement no nothing. Hopefully my duck eggs hatch. I got 8 to hatch for my first try. And here they are.
I forgot to add does anyone know what breeds these are?

This picture is of my little JG jumping up to get the camera wrist band, funny little bird

Just had to show a picture of my sweet grandbaby

Look what i got today for $300. its 6'x12'x8' coop, with 5 bails of straw, very nice and built sturdy, and super heavy.. I was planning on building something simular to this, and boy am i glad i found this.. i even got 3 rhode island red hens, coop and hens are 1 yr old. we had to cut down a tree to get it in the back yard.. well now i am up to 3 coops in my back yard.. and I dont even want to discuss chicken math..

Been pretty busy, i would say its peak mushroom season right now, spending lot of time in the woods picking,

I didnt get to read all the post..

sorry for all the losses.

love the picture of the dd shooting her bow.

and all the picture of everyones chicks, and animals.

LOVE the Uggo, Silly. If we made it a shirt I'd we could put this for the wording:

Chickenstock 2013.
(Not “Chicken Stock”. Big difference. Especially for the chickens…)

I would like to give all of you having a rough time a great big (((((internet hug))))))).

My husband has been out of town since Tuesday morning and gets back late tonight - We have a work group that we are a part of (Every month, we all go to one family's house to do any work they need done, so everyone gets a turn with a huge bunch of people kicking out projects for them. We finish the day with a potluck - it's a great time) - Anyway - tomorrow is the group at our house, so I've been trying to get everything prepped for that. I found some super cheap lattice on clearance at Lowes ($1.60 per sheet!), so we are going to do a lattice fence around the garden. I was thinking of spray painting the lattice black - Since my husband is still sleeping (He's on Pacific Time right now), and I need to paint it today if it's going to happen, you all get to decide. :) See the photo below - paint or leave natural? (Side note, just used the TPosts to prop it up for the photo. I'm using actual wood posts for the fence.) I like it with the black arch (though that is dying and will only last another season or two tops, so we could always build a non-black one if needed next year.), but I'm a little concerned it will clash with the unpainted lattice I'm putting against the back of the coop for more privacy...

And here's one just for fun. My oldest on the GIANT pile of woodchips I had delivered. Oie, that's a lot of wood chips. lol

I don't remember who has 70 meat birds in the basement. but if they are over 3weeks old they will do fine outside, I had some one yr. I put in the tractor the day we got them and only had the heat lamp on for a week or 2 this was in early spring. they produce so much heat them selves . if you can make a make shift pen even a lg box with tarp over it would do. or move to garage

6 posts behind, trying to catch up

hugs for a of you with losses and hard times

sorry for the loss of pets also, we had to put 2 old dogs down last yr, very sad!

nice find on the coop,

My New Hampshire decided to go broody again, trying to hatch some Basques under her. moved her to a dog kennel in the big coop, hope she settles down on the eggs

ANY ONE that has put hobbles on a young chick for splayed leg , how long did you leave them on?? I have a chick, leg was not to bad but she couldn't stand up, so I hobbled her, she is very tiny, I was going to cull her yesterday because for the first day she couldn't stand and I don't want the grand kids to get attached. So went down with my nippers prepared to do the deed and she was standing much better, how long should I leave the hobble on??
