Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

The judge's statement is to be expected. I'm surprised we haven't heard it sooner. I had contemplated discussing this issue with my FIL who is a Friend of the Court and a lawyer but hesitate because of the anticipation of the exact same response. I love him, don't get me wrong, but as a lawyer there's only so much you can do with what's written and I know he'd read it the same way. So... it's the laws that need to change, as well as the general attitude of the people.

Once I get a copy of the opinion, I'll post a copy.
I was trying to take notes while the judge was talking but he kind of rambled in circles.

I would get electric fencing, bears are BIG adn hungry, and I would think they would break down a run and eat your chickens if they could, don't have any hear so can't speak with expieriance , Glad it isn't in my yard

We had one visit us a couple times last year (that we are aware of) but it didn't harm anything. Just emptied a couple feeders. This is a younger one, so I am concerned about "playful" tendencies and what it could do. I think I'll make sure their watermelon rinds and such are up and out of the run once they're in for the night.

Thanks!

I remember news reports of the black bear near(ish) here. There was one that was in a chicken coop in Belmont. It left the hens alone, but gobbled up the watermelon.
My neighbor lost their feeder last night to the bear. He checked out our empty feeder and then moved on. I'm actually surprised the run wasn't messed with because there were rinds in there. The chickens put themselves to bed around 7pm and the bear would have to knock over the coop to do anything to them. Never a dull moment around here. I wanted to start making sure everything was picked up here anyway before calling it a night from now on. Due diligence for the coons, but honestly didn't think of the bear till my husband woke me up to see him.

One neighbor got his bear permit this year and I know he's determined to use it, but I don't know how effective it will be in the long run and there isn't anything he can do until September anyway.

do you mean Americauna. I raise Aracaunas and it really really bugs me when people make the mistake
I have
americauna chicks, supposed to lay light blue eggs, will be a while they are only 5weeks old
not real fond of the rumpless look,
if they lay green eggs most likely are EE as they are a mix usually of several breeds, producing green eggs. I have some of those too and love them
are you in the Newaygo area also? don't think we get bear down by GR very often, have had some though,
