Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

I have
americauna chicks, supposed to lay light blue eggs, will be a while they are only 5weeks old
not real fond of the rumpless look,
if they lay green eggs most likely are EE as they are a mix usually of several breeds, producing green eggs. I have some of those too and love them
are you in the Newaygo area also?  don't think we get bear down by GR very often, have had some though,
wait you have rumpless birds?

I wonder how "stupid" people think most of us chicken raising people are. It amazes me more how other chicken raising people think most other chicken raising people are stupid and ill informed and feel a need to give a lesson to. Do it this way, do it that way, you have to give them this, not that, don't mix them up, you're wrong, use these products, blah blah blah. When it comes down to it, maybe those people aught to just bite their tongues instead of putting their feet in their mouths. Maybe I just won't sell eggs anymore to people either because the color isn't the right shade of brown, those eggs are too small, do you have any eggs that aren't fertile.

Now I hope it really rains hard. Some dumb broad just puked her guts out bushes where my chickens hang out and I do not have a hose that goes that far. What the hello was wrong with the ditch across the street?

NOVA! I just logged on to ask some questions but now? Ha, ha! Here's my questions pertaining to my beat up girls. I removed the roosters to let them heal and wonder how long do the back, and wing feathers take to fill back in? It's been a month and they look the same? Should I worry about sunburn on them? Finally, there are some broken wing feathers and I was wondering how often they fall out or should I remove them?

I don't feel too stupid.

John, I don't think they will get their feathers back till they molt. Do you need some hen aprons/saddles? I know someone that makes them

Laura is right. They usually won't get their feather back until the next molt. Sunburn could be a problem if the area bared it large. Aprons will help as will the application of an ointment like Udder Balm.

Rooster wear can be reduced if you keep your rooster's toenails short and blunted. Most of the damage is caused by the rooster standing on the hen and constantly jostling for position.

Nova, hopefully everyone knows that when I answer a question I am only offering advice garnered from many years on this earth. I would never think other chicken folks are stupid for asking a question. However, when I think about how I only intended to have 4 birds and now have 48 and I read of the obsession with chickens others have, I'm starting to think most of us are a little crazy.

Nova, people on any board do the same thing. I was on a parenting board, until I was "shoulded" away. I hope you weren't insulted here.

This thread is great for MI geography. After a quick glance at a map, I now know where Mikado MI is.

We're getting new neighbors behind us. I sure hope they don't mind city chickens.
