Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

I'm so sorry to read about the loss of Pat the Rat and also Bratty. But I was happy to read that HH will be a grand mother, and I got a kick out of that announcement pic. You all might be interested in this local news segment about efforts to get Perry to grant a variance for allowing some hens. One city council member interviewed said the city ordinance actually allows bantam chickens. How silly is it That they won't grant one exception under these circumstances?!? BTW, as far as treats and medicine, I have put Ivermectin paste in soft bread successfully. I don't know as it would work as well for liquid meds though.
So, they allow bantams, but are going to deny large fowl? Get some bantam English orps. Then, they'll never know what to do since they're as big as a normal hatchery large fowl chicken. Lol

Remember the big tree I had last winter? It was a big honey locust.
I received another tree tonight from the same guy. This one stem was compromised by carpenter ants but the rest of the tree is solid wood.

If I still had my chickens, they would be in a feeding frenzy over those tasty ants.
If you are nearby and want some tasty treats for your chickens, bring them by. The buffet is open.

I posted a similar response on another thread. I asked if leader dogs should be small breeds like Shih Tzus rather than Golden Retrievers or German Shepard breeds.

I was being snarky, but a few responses took it seriously.
So sad for humanity.

I'm amazed you get more than one at a time. I've got two feeders and if there's more than one they chase each other off sparring.

I have 2 feeders also.

I was absolutely shocked the first time I saw more than 1 feeding at the same feeder at the same time. It is a definitely not the norm & I only see it a few times a year. The norm is one at the front feeder & one at the side.

Hummingbirds are so cool :D

I think they should be allowed to keep their current therapy chickens, but as those chickens pass away, be replaced with bantams. Like Silkies. Get a silkie like Roger... Huge bantam. I don't know. I think the city is being rediculous about it. Size restrictions on chickens... Well, I guess we should be happy they can have chickens at all...

May I propose a trade?
Your son can stay in my house and I'll take his room. Or a spot in the garage or barn. Or a place to set up my camper.

I'm well past rugrat status but I can act childish if need be.

Won't someone PLEASE adopt me?

Too funny, lol! Of course, you could have chickens here. And as big a garden as you would want. AND you could straw bale garden your heart out . . . this could be a win-win

. I even have a rototiller that pulls behind the garden tractor but it needs a little work. I didn't till this year - usually I just drive my BIL's old Ford tractor over from my parents' house when I need an area worked up it has the big 5 foot PTO tiller that works AWESOME! Plus it's hilarious to see peoples faces as they drive past a GIRL driving a tractor down the road). I don't suppose you're good at milking cows? Those are next on my farm animal list . . .
I do still have a spare bedroom even if he never moved out. It's not huge - it's just used to store stuff and is my son's computer room currently. And a lower level that needs to be finished one day . . . it's already plumbed for a third bath. Oh, the projects I'll never get to!!!

fuzzy, I don't recall the original mirror comment, but have you tried stringing CD's up over your runs, or the areas your flock ranges?  I've heard the reflection, when they are blown in the breeze, scares the hawks away.  This was recommended by another Michigander, a friend over on the west side of the state; she says it works like a charm!

CD's have worked for myself & others....I have appropriately hung the Dixie Chicks & Death Bunny CD's...oh yeah...& some reggae sun splash by various artists-lol
