Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

I forgot to mention, I am downsizing, and am going to drop one breed , my Delawares, I have a yearling trio, laying very well, jumbo brown eggs, plus at least a half dozen started chicks, free to someone who wants a heritage homestead breed.

PM me and I will give more details. I am located 2 hrs north of Saginaw close to Lake Huron, just off M 23, 45 miles south of Alpena. This is an opportunity to get this beautiful breed.

Good morning all. I haven't posted for some time. Summer gets me outside and off the computer I guess. All my girls are laying well. Yesterday we put new perches in the coop and run. It's like a jungle gym for them LOL. Hopefully it will keep them happy and content for the times when I can't let them out to range.

Well, I'm now getting 5 - 6 eggs per week from the turkey hen. The eggs are getting bigger and bigger, too. I've never had turkey eggs before but I think we'll be trying them this weekend

. I might just have to get her a buddy since I'm moving the pullets she was housed with up to new digs by the main coop. I don't think the mule is going to be good enough company for her . . .

I still have a couple of Welsummer pullets available if anyone is interested . . . And meal worms, too. Varying sizes from small to med/large.

HH, do the hummingbirds like their feeders in the open, or in a more protected spot? I've had mine in a tree, and I don't think it's been touched all summer. I'd really like to draw some birds our way. I've seen them in our neighborhood in years past.
Let's see... I have three hanging on the front porch, two on the back deck and one on the bird feeder post. The ones that empty out the quickest are the ones on the front porch. DH filled up one yesterday morning and by 7pm I was refilling it. And they are not small feeders. We get the largest ones we can find. Today I will be adding another one to the front porch.
I have 2 feeders also.

I was absolutely shocked the first time I saw more than 1 feeding at the same feeder at the same time. It is a definitely not the norm & I only see it a few times a year. The norm is one at the front feeder & one at the side.

Hummingbirds are so cool

We get so many you cannot count them. It sounds like a swarm of bees around here. They are cool and we really enjoy them. We are up to 40 cups of sugar so far this year. Last year we used 84 [32 just in August!] They usually hit pretty hard and heavy in August. We like to share so if anyone wants to come sit on our front porch then come on over and sit a spell

Welcome back Jake!
