Perhaps overkill, but that's one of the few of the chicken diseases that actually scare me.

Certainly is getting warm. Just came in from watering the chickens and picking the corn that was ready to harvest and I'm sweating like a pig. I researched the origin of that phrase and it actually refers to the condensation of water on smeltered iron or "pigs". A more appropriate animal would be a horse. Now they really know how to sweat. Some sweat so profusely that it actually lathers.

Oh yeah, pig iron. Never thought of that. Learn something new every day. Reminds me of Fayette. Anyone ever go out there to the ghost town/furnaces? One of my favorite places in MI. I could visit every year and not get tired of it, between the ghost town and the lake. *sigh* I want another vacation please.

It's on the very end of the garden peninsula in the U.P. along Lake Michigan. It's a state park. Used to be a smelting town back in the day, abandoned (wanna say the last resident left/died in the 70's or early 80's). They're working on restoring the buildings but it's a pretty awesome ghost town with a nice campground nearby along the lake shore. Highly recommended.

The pictures of Fayette certainly brought back memories. When my youngest son, who is now 40, was about10 months old, we were camping in the UP. I carried Scott everywhere in a back back that held him quite high. As were were exploring the old town the two older boys and I decided to go into the old coke oven. I ducked down to enter forgetting that Scott was on my back. That oversight resulted in his head striking the door jamb. Obviously this resulted in extremely loud squalling amplified by the shape of the shape of the brick oven. Fortunately I raised some very hard headed kids so he wasn't hurt too bad.

More of the ant/grasshopper story. After being an ant on Saturday, I was a grasshopper on Sunday. Today I'm back to being the ant.
It is 88 degrees and muggy as all get out. Why am I prepping for winter?
