You can send the rain this way. I need some here. There is a light sprinkle but not much. A friend brought over a bunch of cardboard yesterday to recycle or trash. A big heavy wall box will serve just fine for a brooder, so I saved that from the misty rain.

Now that the splay leg was successfully treated, I just have to come up with a decent floor material so the canaries can have good traction.

Are you already planning on incubating again? What kind of incubator did you use? I just bought 2 Little Giants. They are used and I'm not even sure if they work . . . I plugged them both in and the little red light comes on but I couldn't tell if the egg turner works. I'm going to give them a good cleaning and get a thermometer/humidity gauge for them. If I'm lucky enough to have broody hens again next spring (or if the foster dog doesn't kill all of my muscovy girls) I won't need the incubators.

Good Morning Everyone! Finally starting to get eggs again . . . This is 2 days take from about 23 mature hens (ages 7 months - almost 3 yrs) and 18 (or so, lol) pullets that have just started laying sporadically. I have 6 more Wellie pullets that should start in a couple more weeks (hopefully), though 1 surprised me and started laying at 20 weeks. And I finally found where my 2 Rouens hens have been laying - something got into their nest and ate most of the eggs. There were broken shells everwhere.
Hopefully a few of you are having better weather than my area is. The horseshoe fundraiser the rescue is holding in Davison isn't going to do so hot if this rain keeps up . . .

A slight drizzle is here. I made a run to Menard's and only needed the wipers for a single pass going there and coming home. But since it is "raining", I stay in and watch the Lions' game and write FOIA requests.

I will NOT be incubating again. Ever! I used a borrowed Little Giant #9200 sans egg turner. The temperature was rock steady during the entire time.

Ok all Michigan BYCers I need some information. I am considering getting emus next spring. I read the emu threads on here and have been doing lots of research. Now my next question is, are there any emus raisers in michigan. Do you sell chicks or eggs? What kind of cost am I looking at (a rough idea is fine). Thanks for all you help.

There wasn't much rain here so I messed around with the porch, working out the details of the steps. I think I have it designed, now I just need to power tamp the slag, make sure all is level and finish laying out the bricks on the upper tiers.

I got to thinking I should give a little info about my location. I live 5 miles forom the border but I grew up in Michigan. And we do have some property in Michigan for retirement plans. Right now it's more of a little getaway wth a hobby farm and woods. I really like this thread too.

Raz, I line the bottom of an appliance-sized box layed on it's side ( I cut a large opening in the top) with a heavyweight plastic garbage bag, then cover the bottom with wood shavings and pelleted pine bedding. Less dust and smell than either alone.
