Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Ya'll are evil bambi killers.... Wanna know why? Cuz I don't hunt... I LOVE venison. And none of ya'll share. Hehe.

Chickenpox... Sorry I missed the congrats.on the new addition. I feel truly chastised.

About the roos... Within you can be fine with multiples depending on the temperament and dynamics of the yard, the space, and the easy ability to create instant pens... Which I do. I no longer have Fritz the Jerk... I no longer have Ray the silkie... Ray was hawked, and that same night, Fritz was scared to the woods and spent a horrible night in the bitter cold, didn't handle it well... Well anyway... All my birds range together in the yard, but the roos, all but 3 go to roost in separate coops. There will be a bit of a tiff here and there in the yard, but so far so good. I do have a lot of space and hens though.

If you are interested come spring, I may be able to get eggs to you for the phoenix. You will have to hatch them, Ibrykowski.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with getting attached to a bird that must be put down, both loving and doing the right thing. I find that I'm better to my birds if I love them, even the ones that are raised for food and they are better off for it too. It's what works for the individual.

Interiors of the new coop. Still needs a lot of work but it's liveable. Poop boards are the
first order of business. Shelves and storage to come. The entire length of both eaves are
ventilated with hardware cloth (except for between the three joists below the roosts (you
can barely see in the first photo that those are blocked off to prevent drafts). I can block
the rest as needed with scrap 2 x 6's. There is also the fully functional antique cupola on
top for ventilation as well. All the windows are covered in hardware cloth and open as needed.

Its even better on the inside! I love all the light. Beautiful rooster, and hens.

I have friends that I haven't even used yet.

Be prepared for a long winded crower! LOL! My boy sure has a set of lungs on him Nova, esp when I'm in the shed trying to feed the rabbits......... UGH!
I'll try to remember to get a photo of him tomorrow.

After seeing that deer head on the wall, I HAVE to share a story.
We are visiting family, and my two litte girls see a deer head on my uncles wall. The two year old points at the head and says "cow!"
My 4year old looks at her baby sister and proudly corrects her. "That is NOT a cow!"
"IT'S A HORSE!!!"
I think about that story every time I see a deer head on a wall...

Alright Stacykins! Congrats on the nice doe! I know what you mean about the property gauntlet. When I first started hunting, we had a whole country block (about 200 acres) with just my Dad and I. We took some impressive bucks from there, may took 2 or 3 a year....... and now we're down to 40 acres with everyone and his brother sitting along our property line and they not only shoot everything, but take 5-6 each. We rarely see many deer anymore. And none of the size or quality like this fella....

I went out for a few minutes tonight after I processed a turkey for a customer. I'm not sure if the deer I spooked going to my spot was the same one that came in later behind me or not. It was a nice doe as well. She was only 20 ft behind me.. but of course, she was behind me and the road was behind her. So she was safe for tonight, however, that may change in the morning!

Wow, yea, that original 200 acres sounds like it wouldn't been a paradise.

Land is inexpensive here in the UP. When I finish college, I plan to purchase a parcel of land to make my own hunting camp. Provided my car doesn't die between now and then, hah!

Next year, I think I may see if I can lease a parcel of land to hunt on. I might actually get a buck then!

Thanks everyone.

Farmer, great photo! If that is their farm, it would make a nice gift!

I was just thinking about that! I showed my boss the picture from my phone, and he thought it was really cool, and liked it a lot. My girlfriend works at Walgreens, and she can print out a big picture for me, and I will frame it and give it to my boss for Christmas.

Nova is your autocorrect back on? Or do we have a member named chickenpox with a new grandbaby too?

I thought of that! :lau

Lady- Love your coop!

I don't certain people. Tight now. i sm pretty upset. So, we original had 9 chickens. Our setup was weak do we give them to a friend to watch till we can take them back.

Now, 5 of those have already died. The 4 remaining she won't give back! They are MY chickens, we even offered $50 for just 4 chickens that arnt even hers!

The catch, she knows we arnt aloud to even have chickens. So we can't take her to court or something. If we stole them, she will come to our house and see them. Ugh!

She only wants them coz she used to have 32 chickens. All of them were slaughtered by something but 16. She just got new chickens but still refuses to give mine up! Peep, is one of those 4. The one my profile pic is of and name.

What just wows me, is that she said she would by me 20 more chicks instead of just giving me the four. I just want these darn chickens back! Each one means ALOT to the whole family.

Any ideas?
