Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

The floor is beautiful. I love hardwood floors. Being in a log home, my entire house is hardwood. Even my last house that my ex & I built had mostly hardwood. Besides how gorgeous I think it is, I really like the facts that it is easy to keep clean & if it is "real" HW (i.e., the. Ice thick stuff), it can/should last forever. I even like it when it starts getting that "used" look, scratches, nicks & all :D

My XMAS break started today, too. Off til 6 Jan :weee

Looks like things might icy & dicey down here in SE MI in the next 24 hours, too. As much as I complain about winter & snow, I AM kinda bummed that since it just warmed up, it is looking ugly & muddy out. And the ONE week I really enjoy the white is XMAS week !

Me too! Every time I move into a house I slowly but surely get rid of all the carpeting. I don't like carpet. Can't ever get it clean. Luckily this house only had one room of wall to wall carpet. It was brand new when we moved in but it was shag and it was in the dining room of all places. Kids, carpet, dining room - no. So it was already slated for removal when the old cat took to peeing on it, all along the wall under the windows. Then the situation was urgent. It HAD TO GO! So two years of living here and the house is carpet free. That's a new record. I do keep oriental rugs though.

Yes, careful out there everyone at this latitude. Folks are driving slow past the house and on our street, that's saying something. Snow was a couple of inches deep on the road last week and cars were whizzing by at 50 mph, at least. Not today.

Relationships between animals sometimes take strange twists. Consider this very old dog and a half-lame pullet.
he must of been a beautiful puppy, one no one could resist,

roads are very icy!!..grandson stayed home from work, I drive him, I went out early and tried to get up to the main road, got 1/2 way up the hill and started sliding backwards, very slowly inched back down care turned,in directions I didn't want to go, thought for a min. I was going into the creek, got the car in revers, no gas applied and still going forward, the dirt rd. was crunchy and driveable but no go on the black top,( that is were the hill starts) got back home and told him call in tell them if rds improve you will be there, but we can't get to the main rds.

All schools in 5o miles around us are closed. YAY, kids get to start vac. early

DRIVE SLOWLY if you are able and must get on the rds.

I'm a nurse, so snow days just don't happen for me (ever)
Yes, roads were terrible this morning. Grand Rapids was a sheet of ice especially side roads. Lakeshore was worse in my opinion.
Stay safe out there. Stay home if you can! It stinks that my kids have a snow day, and I'm working :-( but after today I'm off the rest of the week! Woo hoo :)

Hi everyone,
Been extremely busy. Everything was pretty great until yesterday. Not a happy camper right now$#$#%^&%%^. Anyway looking for 4-6 laying hens(ee's or brown layers) and 2 Muscovy ducks. If anyone wants to part with any in SE Michigan?

For free or for reasonable?

Older girls --- 2 jersey giants, 2 barred rocks, 1 buff orpington, 2 silver laced wyandottes. 2 plus years old and free.

Juveniles --- 3 blue laced red wyandottes with a bit of splashing. 7 months old, beautiful, ready to lay anytime, and free.

Juveniles --- 3 blue orpingtons. 1 black, 1 silver blue gray, 1 a darker gray with black head features. $12.00 each. Originally $20.00 at purchase plus shipping costs. These girls are ready to lay also. 7 months old and beautiful.

Younguns! --- born september 15. 1 black, 2 silver gray with black heads, and 1 rooster who has yet to show all his full coloring. 3 hens are $10.00 each and rooster is $5.00. Once again, these were $20.00 each. The rooster was $15.00.

The blue color strain of orpingtons is new to most hatcheries and still a bit pricey. Considered moderate to good egg layers and a very docile breed.

All these birds are good pet quality breeding stock. They are tolerant to Michigan weather and hardy. The winter has slowed the egg production but come spring you will be layden with lots of eggs. These birds are all dual purpose, ( meaning meat and eggs) but all but the younuns are already too old for anything else but soup stock and crock pot. 12 to 16 weeks is the proper time to market for meat. I recomend you take the rooster to expand the blue orp stock and bloodline. Resale of the chicks could help offset your feed costs!

Hoping you get back with us.

I'm willing to pay fair market value. Unfortunately I lost my small flock to an accident when no one was home involving a young dog I just took back a few weeks ago and was not yet introduced to them. He is currently being re homed. Apparently his gate was not properly secured and the second gate left open giving him access to the garage window where my indoor winter run was. I personally usually recheck everything but was running late to work. I did find someone that rehabs raptors in my area last night and donated them so I guess at least something benefits from the loss. Still real 84&&$#$%^$#^^^ at my self and the circumstances.
