Thanks!!!

Hi everyone and Happy New Year! A few days away and nearly 30 pages! This is already too much winter, not having fun yet... MSU is the place for necropsies; the best most complete results. Dr. Fulton is terrific! The price includes up to six birds, not frozen but chilled or sick. Sorry for your losses. it's hard. We've got about two feet of snow, and all that wind chill. Bah! Humbug! My coop is insulated and sheltered from the wind. I've got a vent open on the west, and the doors are facing east. The vents are open on the east side. Tonight I did plug in a 75w heat lamp, but maybe not needed. I felt bad about the temps tonight. I do like the metal water heater bases; much easier to use than the heated plastic waterer. Mary

I don't think sleeping is going to be a problem to night. It took several attempts but we finally got all the snow cleared. Sadly much of it will probably be back where is was taken from. The chicken coop is about 75' from the house and I had to clear the path twice before I finally quit for the day. When I look outside, just before dark, I could see that the wind is already star.ting to refilled the trench I'd cut. Hopefully it won't be too bad in the morning.

I am literally snowed in. There are over 4' drifts across driveway. Plow guy hasn't been back since this morning, but it wouldn't matter anyway, it would just fill back in.

I will not be able to get out to go to work tomorrow. I am going stir crazy.

My back is killing me from all,the useless shoveling I did this morning.

.......

Necropsy, at MSU cost around $80 1 to 6 birds. if you have some that seem sick you should take them in as well
I had some done a couple yrs ago, Dr. Fulton is great and does a wonderful job, is very helpful and will answer questions online,

HAPPY BIRTHDAY Lady, very yummy eclairs

windows are pretty too, although they look cold, maybe you could get storms

Precious and Opa, seems you guys are neighbors. you got more snow and maybe more wind then we did, only about 5" here, but lots of wind and COLD
....
don't wrap your chickens to tight, ventilation is more important, they have nice down coats......., fresh water and lots of food, extra bedding
all help keep them going in this cold weather

I am so not looking forward to go to work tomorrow!!! I work at a sorta small dairy farm, and I am outside 90% of the day!!! Brrr. Got a lot of snow here already.
Don't forget to take extra gloves in case yours get wet. Be careful.

Two chickens died last night and one looks close. Have her inside, wrapped in towel, did blow dryer on low. She is barely moving and won't drink. Help. Kids and I have been crying all morning
I am so sorry about your losses.

Happy Birthday Lady & your DH as well. Those eclairs look yummy. Much better than a cake.

Yes Kat lives west side of Howell and I'm east of Howell. The media says we received the most with just under 17 inches but at my house if was closer to 20. Then when you add the snow that drifted in it rapidly became rediculous. We have several spots where my two stage snowblower could no longer blow snow over the top of the 5' mounds we had built up. Hope used a shovel to knock the tops off so I could blow it further out from the driveways. One of my drives is 60' long and averages 20' wide. The other drives 12' width runs 100' before it widens out to accomodate parking in front of my shop. A 20'x30' area and a 30'x50' area plus 120' of walkway equals some serious snow removal for this old man.

Kat's house sits a incredibly long distance from the road and I'm sure the drifts that accumulate have got to be monumental. My son lives north of Howell in a very open area. He said that when looking east his wife's car was completely hidden by the massive drifts.
