Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

I am actually still working on finishing the eggs you gave me... I have a doz and a few left! BF was eating eggs like crazy in the morning... guess he got sick of them.

I found this and thought it was interesting! Curing sour crop with Monistat!
https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/630307/sour-crop-cured-with-monistat

I have been reading about wry neck, worms, and sour crop, but I am not sure what is the issue with Nugget.
He was picked on by another roo (that has moved on) so I assumed brain injury.

Nugget keeps his neck back like a snakes that is ready to strike. His comb is pale. He is wobbly when he walks.
No other symptoms. Eats, poos, even tries to pick fights (which is a sight to see)

I am trying Poly-Vi-Sol to see if he has wry neck
I read it may be induced by stress but starts out as a vitamin deficientcy

His legs look funny in this pic but there is nothing wrong with them.
That is how he holds his head all the time.

If you have any suggestions please feel free to shout them out!

Yeah, that's wry neck... Not as severe as my Aster's was, but could get a lot worse. Add selenium and but e to the polyvisol. On capper broke open and poured in of each, shake real good...

You didn't have the chickens supervising you, RaZ? I can't do anything without my birds stupidvising me.

hi, my names Wild Rooster. I'm an Old English Game lover from near the "base of the thumb."
Welcome. I love OEG! I only have a pair but keep thinking I could use more.
I am proud enough of my doctoring to give you guys and gals the first look at my poor hawked baby... It has only been 11 days since the hawk attack and her boo boo has gone.....
I'm so glad your girl has healed up. They really are tough little birds.

She was part EE because she layed a light greenish brown egg, but i DEFINITELY think you hit the nail on the head! She was a rust colored with blue spangles before her second year molt. Then she got black and white in, kinda looked calico.
The link has pics of spangled orloffs! I would pay good money for some of these!!!!

Unfortunately you will have to. They are expensive birds. The amount I spent trying to get mine is not good.

The ones I have did come from Star Bright Farm. She is one of the few - maybe 4 breeders I know in the country.

Well my cold isn't gone but this is the first morning I have woke up feeling normal in the past week. No more sitting around in the afternoon for a rest. The rain and the cold is getting a bit much after not having any all summer. The chickens haven't minded at all. I moved more or them around last night and they were not happy with me. Hopefully it is for the better.

So it looks like I have been raising homing chickens. 2 days ago I sold 7 young and year-old hens to my neighbor, he lives next to me but through a small woods - can't see each other's houses, but can hear the roosters crowing back and forth. Yesterday at lunch I found one of my Jaerhon pullets outside the run - couldn't figure out how she got out, but they do sneak out every once in a while. I caught her much more easily than normal, and put her back in. Then later it occured to me that maybe one of the sold chx found her way home. Counted Jaers, and sure enough, there were 3 instead of 2. She had flown out of a 6 foot pen, made her way through the forest primeval and past the silver fox that has been hanging out in there lately, and made it home alive. An epic journey for a little bird.

I think I will replace her with one of the EE's instead, those Jaers are pretty persistant and now that she knows the way would probably just come home again. They are great foragers, have so far layed a LOT of eggs, and are a little on the wild side - good for avoiding foxes I am sure. And very pretty in addition.

Yeah, that's wry neck...
My poor Nuggeter...
I want to just try the Poly-Vi-Sol first...I also put poultry drench in the water.
If that doesn't work after a week I will add the selenium and E.
I don't want to over-load him right away.
Will I have to do this for the rest of his life?

I need a venting moment...
My MIL asked if I would watch my niece this Sat so she could take my SIL and nephew to a baseball game. I said yes.
Now we all have colds in my house and I thought it was necessary to tell my SIL that I didn't think it would be a good idea for me to watch "Baby I" because I did not want her to get sick. I gave her plenty of warning to find a new sitter.
My MIL calls this morning to make sure we were sick and could not watch Baby I... I thought that was quite rude.
Thank you. Vent over.

Hmmm. definitely have to save up for some of those! I still want some for spring. (Or some of yours, Tap, if you want to sell any chicks) Are yours standard or banty? I would be ok with a part EE chick, as long as the body type was there. You can tell because the chicks have the biggest butts EVER, and that hawk beak/nose..........

I have been searching for what she was mixed with every since i first got her, she was so unique! The blood carries pretty good. My girl had to be a less than half orloff, because the egg was fairly blue. She was still enough of one that had not her egg been blue i would've sworn she was a full breed! Her daughter is even less and she still carries the traits to a "t"!

Anyone who questions such loyalty to a chicken needs only stop by my coop, and see cookie (her daughter) hanging at my feet crying pitifully to be picked up

Her momma and i spent many an afternoon in the garden together. She was always good and let me pick her up anytime, anyplace. She was on the small side, and the orloffs are supposed to be big, so i think she was part banty.?

So why would my hens start laying eggs from the high roost? Is it possible that the egg "slips" out during the night while they are on the roost?

(chicken fart) lol

I had a girl who started letting them fall from the roost when she didn't want the rooster's attention............ She was the only one who did it.

Maybe you could put a ledge under the roost so the egg drops on there...
Or maybe some egg crate foam where they land LOL
