Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Often shady insurance companies have a standing order to their staff to DENY a claim immediately, regardless of it's merits. They know many people will give up there.

I often substitute part or all the milk/cream in recipes with fat-free half and half, it gives a very nice texture and richness, without a lot of calories.

Well then I will say this. For when that day comes... know you are already missed.

Truly, more than in just a social forum situation. I enjoyed the day I stopped over, even if it was for just a short time. I'm glad I got to meet your husband and beautiful children. I look forward to seeing you again. Are you going to CS again this year?

Aw, well thanks. Just for the record I wasn't fishing for attention. I reread my comment and it sort of came across that way. It's just how it seems to go. Me and the internet don't always get along. So I do try VERY hard to make connections with people, like meeting you and helping you out, in person. That was great. I helped Randy via the internet and then met him at CS and I don't think he even recognized me, no offense Raz. It's just the nature of the beast. There's rarely a face to the name or stories even, let alone a real connection be it a friendship or otherwise. Therefore I often feel very transparent. I am going get a BYC bumper sticker though. As often as I frequent the feed mills and TSC - holy heck! I think one of the eggs just peeped. Day 18. Hm. I hope I'm hearing things.

Anyway...

I wasn't planning on attending CS but with as many chicks as I'm hatching this year, I think I will have to. I am only supposed to have 20 on my property and well, I have 19 in the coop currently (3 may be headed to freezer camp at slaughter time) and 14 upstairs in the brooder and 11 in the incubator... Yeah. I think I'll be there to offer an olive egger pullet or marans roo. I'll have some, no doubt. I give my sister first dibs on pullets but after that, they're all up for grabs or into the freezer they go.

The one I made this week I did with all fat-free half & half (cuz DH accidentally bought it instead of the regular). It turned out awesome ...and a bit more guilt free. I never have milk in the house as we don't drink it & it just goes bad; whereas cream stays much longer (I just water it down if I need milk for something). In experimenting with the quiches over the last month, believe I have kind of perfected the texture (at least for our tastes!) using the cream &/or half & half. Was really happy how it turned out w/the fat free...that is gonna be my "new" ingredient!

She might, or she might not. If you want, stick some fake eggs under her. That might keep her happy until you can swap them out for real eggs. I've done this before with bright colored plastic easter eggs that I just filled with mud to give them weight. I gave her the "mud babies" for her to sit on while I was waiting to collect enough eggs to swap them out. She was perfectly happy to sit on her plastic mud babies.

I've never done this before either...but, from what I have read, they will stay broody for a few weeks unless you "break" them of it. Maia (my broody) has been in the nest box solid for about 6 days now. I plan to give her eggs (EE & Marans, since my Roo is an EE...maybe get me some Olive Eggers ) this Saturday....

I have golf balls under her right now, hopefully that's enough. I'll be putting some olive eggs under her on Saturday :)

I just went out there & tossed her off her nest ...right now some of the other girls just hop in with her & lay their eggs (she took over the "fav" nest box) ..took 4 out! I want to make sure she is getting "out" at least once /day to eat/drink/poop. She just makes the cutest little noises...& is a total sweetie when I lift her up. Then she gives a "ok, fine" humph & runs right to the food & water!

I haven't put any substitute stuff in the nest for her...I am not going to be totally bummed if nothing hatches; just figure if I have a broody, I'll let her try & be a momma (+ bonus of maybe some OEs) especially since I have NO intentions of EVER having babies in a brooder in my house again. Once was enough...I swear I still am finding dust a year later....

And to use more eggs, I made a coconut pound cake and brownies for P/T conferences tonight. Gotta buy those teachers off! They have to put up with my crazy kindergartener!

Don't feel bad, I rarely recognize people. Heck, I don't even know the names or faces of my own relatives.

Welcome rmattise! Glad you stopped by. Where in the southeast are you?

Just because we miss the old friends, doesn't mean we don't welcome the newcomers! With some of the oldies, there were a lot of fun bantering going on. Some really funny story telling. Teasing and the like. We hope the newbies will feel comfortable enough to hop right in and make yourself at home and fit yourself right in!! Don't be shy!! And if you someday leave this forum, you will be missed. Each and every one of you bring something special to this forum, to our discussions. You bring different ideas and insights. So, please, don't feel invisable. And, we hope you all can make it to CS and maybe make a connection to a new friend!

I pop in now and then. I miss the friends I have made here but I had to get away from the computer for a while and prioritize things. I still miss my chickens but I have a wonderful new grandson to enjoy.
