Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Well, I am pages and pages behind due to the power outage and stupid homework

But I thought I would stop by and see if anyone in the GR area has any large fowl hatching eggs available? My BO hen has been playing at broody for the past few weeks and she finally decided to sit on the nest day and night so I'd like her to hatch out some chicks. We do have fertile eggs, but it'd be nice if I could find a breed we dont have (olive eggers, marans, ducks - can she hatch ducklings?).
I have EE's and olive eggs - I sell them $3 per dozen, no reason you can't get a dozen and just hatch instead :) Maybe trade for a little lavender roo...

I would love olive eggs. Where are you located again? I'd like to get them ASAP and get them under her :) You wont believe this, but the ameraucanas are about 3 weeks old and I swear they are ALL roos!! They all seem to be developing little combs. I'm so sad. I will be trading one of them out for our current roo who has recently went on the attack against me and DH. But yes, I have lavender roos! Lots of them, lol.

Hello, all

I'm a poultry lover who's new to BYC but not new to chickens. I live in southeast Michigan, and figured I'd introduce myself.

Ok, so if I dont get any eggs til Saturday for my broody, will she just continue to set? I've never done this before

She might, or she might not. If you want, stick some fake eggs under her. That might keep her happy until you can swap them out for real eggs. I've done this before with bright colored plastic easter eggs that I just filled with mud to give them weight. I gave her the "mud babies" for her to sit on while I was waiting to collect enough eggs to swap them out. She was perfectly happy to sit on her plastic mud babies.

I've never done this before either...but, from what I have read, they will stay broody for a few weeks unless you "break" them of it. Maia (my broody) has been in the nest box solid for about 6 days now. I plan to give her eggs (EE & Marans, since my Roo is an EE...maybe get me some Olive Eggers ) this Saturday....

Oooh...good idea. And I was just at CVS & they have PLENTY of those plastic eggs since Easter is this Sunday!
