Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Another cold start to what could be a great day. Deciding what to do will determine the outcome. Some times the only way to have a great day is to cowboy up and make it so.

When I think of the number of people who used to post often and no longer do so it makes me sad. There have been so many that I looked forward to reading their posts that have vanished from our cyber world I can't help but wonder why. Some no longer have chickens so they no longer feel the connection. A few have moved and others have new jobs or responsibilities that consume the time they once devoted to our thread. Sadly a few have gotten their feelings hurt as a result of a post, and others became bored with reading what is a social thread.

Thought Id put this out there if anyone is interested. I set my Dad up with a couple pullets last year, a Black Australorp and a ISA Brown. They are about 13 months old now...and due to health issues, he needs to get rid of them. I will have these in Davison on Monday if anyone is interested, PM me.

1) I don't like snow!
2) It is COLD & WET
3) I blame my Aunt for coming back to MI today... Apparently mother nature thought it a sick joke to include her in on the fun.
4) Snow SUCKS.
5) Had to dig out the boots again today! GRR. I thought about flip flops yesterday.

I'll see that challenge...add these 5 complaints to all the rest of the posts & get on it.

I enjoy seeing your pictures. You take some very nice shots.

Hahaha! Sorry, I got busy yesterday and the snow is all gone. I could dig some out from the archives but I think the moment is passed. :)

The only constant is change. I always feel the need to apologize when the "original cast" of the thread mourns the loss of the way things used to be in here. As I am "new", I'm part of that change, what moved the forum on. I know that when I disappear no one will wonder where I've gone. I've been on a lot of forums over the last, well, 15 years now. It's the sad thing about the internet that unless you know someone in person, no one will ever truly miss you or, as in most cases, even realize you are gone. Even more sad is that sometimes even people you know very well, like family, will not notice. But I digress and should not generalize. It's just that I've had that experience on Facebook, when I've deactivated it and then gone to a family gathering months later only to have the person assume I've seen everything they've been up to all year and have to break it to them that I haven't, sorry. I've always wanted to be someone that was remembered and missed. It has yet to happen. Maybe someday.

Glambka, your eggs are so lovely - I do not have Guinea or ducks, wish I did just to give you some eggs.

Maah, look in the line of boxes below Reply. To the left of the Smiley selection is a little filmstrip. Click on that, then embed the video URL to insert the video into the post. Cute video!

Saved the Crab Quiche recipe, looks heavenly

Well then I will say this. For when that day comes... know you are already missed.

Truly, more than in just a social forum situation. I enjoyed the day I stopped over, even if it was for just a short time. I'm glad I got to meet your husband and beautiful children. I look forward to seeing you again. Are you going to CS again this year?

I typed this about 4 hours ago....then Internet went down...kept wondering why when I hit "submit" I went into an infinite "do loop"....

I was gonna recommend quiche, too. My recipe is pretty much the same as the Crab one (which I am definitely gonna make!) except I bake it at 425 for 15 mins, then decrease temp to 350 for ~35mins. Also agree on the cheese qty..I always add more! I have been making at least a quiche / week..using up those eggs that get the little peck crack. This week it was broccoli, carrot & cheddar. Lots of Quiche Lorraine's (oh, also agree on bacon amount, I always double!). For the milk, I have used whipping cream, half & half...
I pretty much use the basic egg & milk,/cream, then throw whatever I have in the fridge as the other ingredients.

Tap, sorry about your pet...

Everyone that had storm damage, sorry...but glad everyone is ok.

RaZ...really? Insurance Co's "excuse" sounds suspect to me...

Opa, good news on the axle.

Not sure what/who else I missed scanning the last 100 posts.

Maia still VERY broody...so pretty sure I am gonna give her eggs this weekend & time it right for a hatch right around when I return from my out of town class on 9 May (gone 28 Apr-9 May). If figure DH shouldn't have to do much of anything with her while I'm gone, other than make sure she is eating/drinking/pooping ;)

Tap - I'm so sorry for your chicken loss. I know she was special to you. :(

Raz - I'd call again and ask to speak to a supervisor - the information you were given does not seem right. :/ If they have been taking your money, they need to provide the service you paid for.

@glambka Here you go! It is so cute!

When I think of the number of people who used to post often and no longer do so it makes me sad.
A few have migrated over to FB. I still "talk" to a few of them. The reasons vary from "no one answered my question" to "I don't feel like I'm part of the in-crowd".
Some have lost their poultry and some have problems at home that are overwhelming them. A few like the other forums that allow for more rigorous political, religious, and social debates. Of course you can cuss on those sights without being censored. But I've noticed that often the posts there tend to be more negative in scope, often little more than emotional rantings. I know I've had my moments also.

I think that this forum is more up-beat and supportive of each other as we share our experiences. But one thing that I've noticed is that this forum is an open group which means that there are often "guests" who read through the forums. Sometimes that comes back to haunt people. I have seen our comments used against us on more than one occasion. It happened before and is happening now to me.

I too miss the people who have faded away from this thread. I hope they are just busy and don't have time to post. I hope we will see you again at CS in 2 months.
