Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Hate to dissappoint you raz, but that's only the tail end of this year's harvest! Lol. These are thai dragon, cayenne, also there were habeneros, cherry bombs.........and with the epic temps boy did the peppers get hot this year! Last year he grew the ghost pepper, which was the hottest pepper in the world last year. This year 's hottest was scorpion butch t but we didn't grow it............. I also grew peppers last year that were 2 foot purple plants, with tiny purple peppers, that actually made DH hiccup! :D He has jars and jars of ground up dried peppers.

I had a couple kids over last night- friends of my son- and they saw the chickens. The 21 year old said, "Do you eat their eggs?" and I said "Of course"- then they all said, "Ew thats sick. Thats gross".
I don't know whether to laugh or cry at this story.............Don't blame the girl for her confusion about the alien though, lol.

Had a good trip today. It's always a plus to bring home one less bird than you took! Our new addition has been named Cotton. Had a nice time visiting and eyeballing birds. My trip back I saw two deer, two coyote and two rainbows. Stopped at Jay's at the wrong time as it was crawling with hunters, and didn't find the two things I wanted.

Tonight my son got a doe. His face says it all. There was no complaints from him that there wasn't horns involved. He and dad are off showing it off now. On my way out to the field to pick them up I was treated to yet another rainbow, this one full and double.
Tell him congratulations for me. I've killed a couple of hundred yet I still remember my first deer. When my sons took their first deer I ask them to write about their hunt. Now some 30 years later those stories have become cherished mementos.

I couldn't make the fall chickenstock, would have been fun, in spite of the weather. Yesterday five very cute Belgian d'uccles hatched here, with the hen still sitting on three more eggs.. Last batch for the season! I'll have a few available in a few weeks if all goes well. Love them! I haven't looked at the walnut tree yet, not sure about the harvest. I let the squirrels enjoy them every year, not me. Mary

Congrats on the up north stock!

I have been sick

And all I wanted to do was sleep for most of the week... Well, today BF let me sleep until I couldn't anymore (11am)
The chickens got let out AND put away today by BF!!! And I didn't even have to ask

Now there is the real way to a womans heart: Do something that needs doing without her asking.
Not to mention he took care of DS until I woke up!!

Had a great mini-Christmas day yesterday. Hillbilly Hen was my Santa, and I bought all of her remaining chicken items. Seeing her again was wonderful

. Although she is no longer up to having chickens (at this time... will keep my fingers crossed she will once again be up to it!), her love of chickens remains, along with her knowledge. Going thru the boxes and finding all of my new treasures was fun.

Got a question though. The weather has told us without a doubt this past week that fall is definitely on the way. I was wondering at what point, date, temperature, do some of you start closing up the windows, installing your winter walls on your coops? I need to make my windows for most of my window openings, and need to make sure I have enough time to do so before the need is actually upon us.
