Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

@RaZ
FOR WHAT??????
Please, please, please say you are pulling our leg....

If not....this is NOT RIGHT....outrageous doesn't even cover it....

I cannot even put in print what I really am feeling,,,

Jail. Plus another year of probation.

And yet if you drink and drive or get busted with drugs or owe outstanding child support or a real criminal... Ya get a slap on the rist and a tiny fine with no jail time.
What the h***has this stupid county come to. Gosh our laws are so stupid here in Mich and other states!!!

Raz, I live in Indiana and sometimes read this thread due to my northern location. I read your link and am horrified that what they have done is even legal! People in New York City have chickens! I would think Michigan would promote sustainability! I am sorry for the harassment you have endured.

I eat my extra roos.

The bluntness of this made me LOL!

Any other new chicken keepers suddenly realize that once you have chickens, you begin to see them everywhere?

YES! DH and I actually stopped by the side of the road "oohing" and "ahhhing" over their free-range chickens and their pretty horses. I'm always on the look-out for incognito coops, too.

I've had it UP TO HERE with animal laws and welfare. There's an animal shelter near here that's always full of drama and the county looks the other way. But OH, if we try to live a sustainable lifestyle --

. I'm sure you've tried any/all loopholes if there were any in the system since this has been such an on-going battle. Keep us updated! When would you have to go? If there is a bright-side, at least its jail and not prison.

--> Question: I know chickens need to be together in at least groups of three to survive, but can you raise two chicks together to introduce to the flock? Will they get lonely? We can only add one more to our flock, but if we got two bantams, I think we'd be all right on space and in the law. (Our previous fourth was a silkie roo and a definite no-no. Its hard replacing JUST ONE chicken that you want to be close with! Our girls now know us, jump on our shoulders and let us hold them. I definitely want that connection with our last few, too!)

Were you at my house in Zeeland this weekend? Had my horses in the front pasture and the chickens free-ranging LOL!

I've pulled a hen from the flock to pair up with a single hen, they'll bond in short order, and then when you put the two back with the rest of the flock they seem more accepting.

Raz,.......... I hope they allow you to get some affairs in order. Do you need a pet sitter?

The person who answered my craigs list ad came out and met the goats... she seemed really happy with them and I was glad they were going with her. She just moved to MI recently and missed not having goats. I know they'll be well cared for. She may even be interested in the other boys.. or future babies, so tonight went really well. She and her kids were very nice. If I remember, I'll invite her here next time I talk to her.

Last year I introduced my 2 BCMs to the flock, after their quarantine by using the "see but not touch method". No probs.
Right now I have 2 Ameraucanas I got from Wynette at CS that I am "integrating". Must say, this is going a little slower than the BCMs cuz these girls are younger & my one PR is quite the bully (I call her Mean Girl).
When I'm home they all are out free ranging. Otherwise, the AMs are in a 4'x8' separated section of the pen (where everyone can see, but not touch). Looks like by this weekend everyone will be together as one happy flock!
