A better pic of the new guy. Tangerine ringneck, 3 yrs old. We have not bonded but he seems happy here. It was too lonely and quiet without a dove! I grew up always having a little parakeet in the house, one of the reasons my chickens ended up becoming pets.

Having some kind of problem with a lot of my chickens. A couple weeks ago while I was in Canada, my mom called and told me that one of our wyandottes, one that was practically full grown, had just all of a sudden died. She also said that two of our three brahmas were acting sick. By the time I got back, they had died. We watched out for more symptoms from any of our other birds and nothing came up... until one of my mom's young sizzles got a swollen eye. It is acting fine, but about a month ago we had a young tolbunt with a swollen eye die. And today I went out to check on the birds and found that my young white polish was dead. Yesterday it was acting perfectly fine. I checked on my current young tolbunt and it has an eye that is starting to swell, it looks really red, and there is a little blood in its nose. I have no idea what is causing the deaths of all these birds, since not all the birds that died had swollen eyes and not all the birds with swollen eyes are acting lethargic or sick in any way. This is the first time I saw blood. Please help.
been busy with DD and grandkids this week,
Hope you are able to find out what is wrong,
Dr. Fulton at MSU does necropsy Diagnostic center....animalhealth.msu.edu OR [email protected] He is very helpful and will answer questions if he can,,, necropsy is costley (cost me $170) in 2013..... was worth knowing what was wrong, his phone ## is 517-353-3701

x2 for Dr. Fulton and the MSU lab. They will do up to six birds for that price; chill and hold in the frig. for a couple of days if necessary. It was worth every dime for the peace of mind and an actual diagnosis! Mary

With winter quickly approaching... I fig it was time to find a awesome pair of wither boots since my feet always freeze every yr. I work outside with both my jobs and I'm sick of my feet freezing and no where in Mich can I find a good pair of warm boots. So I started looking north. Way north.

Just bought these nice caribous from a couple from Alaska. The hubby bought them for his wife and paid almost $200 for them last yr. She wore them only 2 times but her feet are too big. So for $85 and free shipping, they should reach me by the 5th. I can't wait and hope they are as warm as I think they are.

My dad, says there great boots and I got a great deal for them. He said even back in the 80s they was going for $200+ then also. He remembers buying my mom a pair when we lived in an Anchorage. Anyway... I'm pretty excited about them. Next I'm gonna look for a nice Inuit made parka and some mittens/gloves

Wow, Mindylee you really are ready for this bitter winter that is coming. I had completely forgotten about winter boots. Time to get busy. I put duct tape over the toe of one of my boots last year. I tore a gash in one while shoveling the great white crap last winter.

I loved those boots but the tape didn't hold so I vowed to buy better ones this year.

Yeah, same here. I had a great pair of heavy winter muck boots that was just the thing to wear against the freezing temps. However they were pretty old and had worn holes in the rubber shell of them. I covered them in duct tape to keep the snow out, but that only lasted so long. I need to start looking around for another pair in size 13.

Ready to go boot shopping?
