Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

I guess it's not much different to stay inside most the time in summer there like winter here....but at least here you can bundle up and go outside in the winter.

Gotcha, thanks.

Yeah, winter you can always pile more duds on, summer, you can only peel off so much. Hey isn't there a Shel Silverstein poem about that?

I lived in Houston for 5 years. HATED it with a passion!! Hot, muggy, sticky and buggy!

Spring? We had spring? Where was I? Not much of a summer, either. Don't mind winter, usually, but sure did mind last winter. Don't mind snow. Don't like being buried in it! I love taking winter walks. No sweating!!

It's so brisk and beautiful!!

Today we took my father's cremains to Great Lakes National Cemetery and Granny is now very content knowing he lies in a place of honor that is close.

Everyone should visit the National cemeteries. When you gaze upon row after row of crosses standing in somber beauty, the sacrifice made by so many becomes so apparent it is awe inspiring. In that hallowed ground lies both the young soldier who gave that final measure of devotion and the old veteran who now sleeps amidst the valiant.

Thanks! He's doing a lot better now. They're thinking he got some sort of infection in his lungs and that contributed to all of the fluid build up. They've got a lot of it out of him now. He was still kind of puffy when I saw him around noon, and chilled hands with blue fingernails, but later around 7 when I brought my brother over more of that puffiness was gone and his hands were warm. Plus, they got his blood pressure down as well. They're just likely going to keep him there for the weekend to take care of the infection. Which means that he won't get to go up north this weekend at all. Which is a good thing he went into the docs when he did because I don't wanna think about what could have happened if he went up there. His brothers are there, but its still way out in the boonies between Kalkaska, Grayling, and Houghton Lake.

I've really been trying to stay positive this fall with the upcoming winter -- especially with all the negativity surrounding it from last winter -- , and its paying off! We only have a few chimney pieces to install for our wood-burning stove, then we'll be fully prepared! DH got the snowplowing working again tonight, and I make beef stew to warm the bellies after putting up plastic around part of the run.

27* most of the day, but the girls still don't seem to mind! I'm trying not to be too worried (with it being our first winter with them). The temperature reading in the coop has been steady around 30* ... hope they're cuddling for warmth!

After the random death of our silver-laced wyandott, we decide to get more chicks in the spring/winter....thinking maybe as soon as January. Townline starts hatching January 12th!

I McGyvered a roof rake for my 'not fixed this summer shed roof that collapsed in march'.

Found an old window washer with a good threaded handle socket, a piece of tough 1/8" thick plastic and used my 71/2 foot long floor squeegee handle.
Worked great...and will be easier to use once I get a pile built up to stand on. Left some on to show we must have gotten 3-4 inches just last night, about 6 total since yesterday morning.
