Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

This year we decided to cover the whole 24' of the front of the run with plexiglass (faces south). Last year we only did the first 8', with the rest & top done with visqueen. Unfortunately couldn't get the 16' of new cut to size til today or tomorrow, so a lot of this 4-5" of snow is blowing into the run. Birds don't seem to mind too much, though; they have plenty of area to hide from the wind & at the moment are thrilled with all the "white candy" & on the ground & eating away! They sure hate walking on it (except the French girls), but will choose it over their water all day long!

Yeah, my girls are not really having anything to do with the white stuff right now. They haven't been out of the coop since Monday and I thought that they would have been a little more willing to go out and play today. Still had to bribe them to go outside. Then I had about five minutes of panic when I couldn't find one of the girls and didn't see where she could have went too. Of course it had to be one of the white ones. was wondering if she got blown away as its fairly windy here, didn't see her tracks anywhere, and didn't see any feathers from a hawk strike. Finally found her hiding under our junker truck that's sitting in the yard. I looked there earlier and didn't see her under it.

Whatever happened to "global warming"?!?!!

They call it "climate change" now ;)

I honestly don't think I will make it through winter if it ends up being anything like last year....I'm already whining, have 6 layers on, the wood burning stove at 600, and its 20+ degrees outside (windy). No way I'm gonna tolerate those subzero temps ....I am SUCH a wimp (must be that Cali blood...where I was born; why or why did my fam choose Michigan???)

Yep. it is pretty cold.
I just brought in some firewood from outside. I threw a cold log in the woodstove and it froze the flames.

My new stove is coming tomorrow! Its the old school wood burning cook stove/oven. I'm not sure it will be installed right away though. The piping had to come separate, and there is a whole lot of snow to try and work around.
Saving money and energy is costing us an arm and a leg to get this set up started!
Instead of carbon taxes, we need tax credits to off set these prices! So far I'm well over 5k for this stupid new stove.

Afternoon i decided to join BYC finally so thought i would say high to the other Michigan people. We only have like 2 inches of snow but it still sucks. i hate winter so so much. On a side note i got some new chickens given to me, so they were doing their quarantine in a largish 3 tier cage. Last night i noticed one of the banty hens was just standing there acting drunk with her head hanging down. i was worried about losing her so i took her in the house and a few syringes of water later roughly 30 minutes and she plucked back up. So now i have a house chicken, i hope it will be warm enough to put her back out with the other chickens Sunday, suppose to be 48 here.
