Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

All my plans to clean coops etc got bashed when I got called into work Sunday ... seven hours later I got home after dark. So I played with the cream separator instead. We used whole milk and some cream did get pulled off, but not much really. I want to get some milk from a dairy farm to try it again.

Sorry you lost your bird.

I believe solstice is tonight!! either way.... the days will be getting longer!

Can't wait to see how you get on with the separator, fascinating.

Yesterday the 21st was Solstice, shortest day of the year...last night was the longest night ....today we get a whole 4 seconds more daylight as the sun set a bit later!!
Sun won't start rising earlier until Jan 10th.......faith for the unseen, as of yet. I'm a little OCD with SADD...LOL..and have always followed the cycles of Nature closely.

Thanks everyone...it was the right thing to do ...

On a happier note, FINALLY an egg that's not a light brown shade! One of my BCMs laid a beautiful, dark cooper brown egg this morning!! She had gone broody again (she hatched Kaia, my 2 EE pullets & the 2 cockerels that were adopted) then did a quick molt. Haven't had any of my "colorful" eggs since early September. Her comb was bright red yesterday so I knew she was close. Think my other BCM, Lela, is close, too. Now if my 2 EE & Black Ameraucana pullets would just get the memo, my rainbow of colors will be back! Really wanted that OE egg...poor Kaia ...

Back to baking. Just finished 8 dozen Snickerdoodles, time for some Spritz. So far 9 different types of cookies made...just a few more to go!
Sorry about Kaia, Kat. Yay on the copper egg, that is Maya's right?
Ooh, cookies!
I know where you live!
Let's Go RaZ!

Everyone is busy getting ready for Santa to come!! Cleaning and cooking, cleaning and cooking, cleaning and cooking... you get the drift!!! Lots to do. Big crowd coming, so if I don't get back on.....

MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL... HOPE YOU HAVE LOTS OF LOVE AND LAUGHTER WITH FAMILY AND FRIENDS!!! STAY SAFE!

Where is everyone

Try Calder Dairy natural milk. It is not homogenized and tastes great. I consider it a special treat when the cream rises to the bottle neck.
News around here is that I'm finally getting an egg off and on, 7 eggs in the last 10 days. I went an entire month without a single egg.

Finally got health insurance this fall and saw a doctor. Of course he had to find a problem or two. First was diabetes so he writes a prescription. Insurance company says I can't have that prescription. Next was a chest x-ray showing a bad heart so I get referred to a cardiologist. A few visits and procedures later, doc says that it is a congenital defect and we'll watch it in case something happens.

Now the funny part is that I originally saw the doctor for a suspected hernia. It took a referral, insurance approval and a three-month wait to see the surgeon. I no sooner lifted my shirt and he says "holy shirt" you need surgery right away. He wanted to do it last Thursday but since I'm flagged as a cardiac patient, I need permission from the cardiologist. To get that, I need an appointment; to get an appointment I need a referral from the primary care doctor; so I need an appointment with him. Then all of that has to go to the insurance company to see if this is really necessary.

Meanwhile, the surgeon scheduled the procedure for Wednesday. I'm just waiting for the hospital to call with the time to be there. So here I wait trying to find someone who can take me the 2 blocks to the hospital and bring me back home afterwards.

At least I haven't been arrested lately.
