Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Hi to all of the new people I missed.  Hope ya'll can make it to Chickenstock 2015.  Watch for the information threads to start and/or go back to the previous year threads for some relevant information.

@HollyDuckFarmer
I think she came home with one to use as a template.  If not maybe there are tutorials on youtube.
Youtube-- you can learn anything from youtube! That's where I learned.

I will definitely try and tempt Laura to join us again. We'll have to make sure we stay around and visit like we did last year! Really enjoyed that.

You're close to where I am!
I'm just outside of Clinton. you are where??

What a cute dog. I currently have an Australian Cattle Dog - Blue Heeler (edit yes it's a girl, the program won't let me write the correct terminology, lol). I'm looking at (really wanting pretty bad) an Australian Shepard. I had a line on some pups but the tails were docked already. I'm not into that sort of thing.
Belle there is a Mini-Aussie Shepherd. She probably could be classified as a toy as she's just that small.

Hi

This makes me glad to have city water, except when I pay the bill.

Yuck!! City Water tastes funny! Especially when you drink it out of a hose.

Burrrr..... Cold out there. I just tossed some mealworms and sunflower seeds in the coop so that the girls can have some first thing in the morning. Stoke up their heaters.

Just looked, it's 11 which is warmer than yesterday this time. Still dark at 7:25. Snowing. Going to be a DAY for me. My son's Jeep has been broke for about 2 weeks and he was borrowing my Subaru. Well last night he was leaving Holland after work and it died. Drove over there in blizzard conditions. Not the battery, not out of fuel, oh no. Having it towed to my house today, fun fun. Not sure if my free towing will cover that distance. I have a bad feeling about this. Fun, fun.

Over the years I've helped my sons and step sons more times than I could count and I've always done so willing firmly believing that it is what fathers are supposed to do. And now that I am on the far side of the hill I find that my sons are watching out for me.

David is always jumping in to make sure that he handles the hardest or heaviest part of any task we undertake, and I must admit that it did take a little getting used to. That was always my position and was difficult admitting that I can no longer do as much as I once could.

Even many of the lesser tasks he does for me just to help. For example while he was loading tools for today's job he overhauled the venison I having brining so that I wouldn't have to go outside.

My oldest son Joe, recently gave me a 14 month old black white face steer that should scale at about 1200 lbs live weight. When I tried to pay him for what he could sell it for at auction he refused to let me saying that it was just a small payback for all the times I helped him.

It's a proven fact that the less stressed an animal is at the time of it's demise the better the meat will taste. So he will be killing it at him farm. Once the beef is skinned and split he will take it to a friends farm where they have a dedicated building for butchering that includes a walk in cooler. The sides will hang to dry age for two weeks and then he and his friends will help me butcher.

Children can definitely be a blessing.

Freezing water sucks. I currently live in a trailer, even dripping and with heat tape it froze at least 6 times last year! This year i used as much insulation as would fit in my water heater closet where the pinch point was, and am aggressivly dribbling the water. I'd rather pay the water bill! Though i'm fixing to wrap the snot out of the meter, which was another pinch point last year. I have a feeling my outside meter reader plug-in don't work though, last time guy quit reading the meter and tried to buffalo me ;) not the girl to argue stuff like that with as i deal with machines and pressure gages at work! Lol.

The new milk has been released, don't know if anyone had the chance to see. Wal-mart, meijer, and sam's club i think. The white milks are sugar free.

Brrr.. i can't even contemplate summer activities.... i know it exists but summer seems like a dream right now! And for some twisted reason the seed catalogues have started arriving.... just mean!
