Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Good morning! Chicks came today, white Chanteclers and speckled Sussex, from Cackle. All good so far, and my first Cackle Hatchery order. I should have some for Chickenstock if all goes well. Love the little babies! Mary

did they use a heat pack by chance or just in by themselves.....? i have chicks coming as well from someone and they didnt have any heat packs so im very curious

Just got the call! We are protected by the RTFA! Now to get some chicks and ducks for our family farm! Any advise on good breeds. I have 2 boys under 6 so they will be helping me..
Beyond excited!! Now to work on our coop!!

New to Michigan. Feed only organic feed to my girls, but am losing my feed supply. Anyone in the Kalamazoo/Three Rivers area that knows where I can get good organic/non-GMO feed? Preferably not a crumble that can't be fermented! Thank you!
Check out the Amish feed mill in Bloomingdale, between Bangor and Gobles. They carry non-GMO feed at a great price!

I have ordered chicks by mail but never had them come with a heat pack, how many are you getting that could make the difference

getting 29 ....i had a problem...i ordered 2k worth of birds and they didnt put a heat pack in and they were dead on arrival....i guess im more comfortable now that you said they came ok...makes me feel better this batch that is coming are show quality and close to 300 bucks worth....so nervous about the shipment....now that i have had that bad experience with shipping.

I ordered 25 chicks, and got 26, all good so far. I've never ordered a small number, and have always had good results. The very worst year ever, ordered 50 and lost ten%! I wasn't pleased at all. I only try shipped chicks mid-April to mid-May, because of concerns for the weather. Mary

Received my shipped chicks the 31st of March. Very happy with them again. Andalusians, a few Minorcas, a couple GL Polish for my little boy, and a handful of Speckled Sussex. I'm turning into an owner of quite a few chicks. Photo of my favorite young roo. Wish he was what I really needed to keep. He's from my first try at incubating my own. Half Andalusian/ Half BSL.

Congratulations.

Make sure you have it in writing.

Everyone will have an opinion on breed. You can't go wrong with buff orpingtons for good egg production and gentle, friendly personalities.

Thanks Raz!!! Just waiting on getting tge letter, once i get it then we will really start getting our feet wet. I have a good month or two of work to do on the coop. (Its a shed that we have to renovate the inside and move an acre, not sure if my iron worker hubby will trust me building anything considering ny helper is a 2 year old through the week.. So its all on him)

Im jist thrilled beyond words! Been a dream for years! Also not sure if buying from TSC what breed is offered here, might go check. Also no idea of how to build the coop.. Lots to do.
