Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

one of my Iowa Blue chicks is favoring its left leg. still seems to be getting around when it wants to, but has been resting, almost like its trying to do a dust bath. no idea of how she did it.

Pheasant question?

I was given 20 wild ringneck pheasant eggs so I put them under 2 broody cochin hens. How long dose it take for them to hatch? I only hatched out bantam eggs so not sure if its the same time frame or not.

Thanks

Looking for some advise, we are going to use a 10'x10' shed for our coop, might keep an area for storage of feed and my garden materials. It will also have an outdoor run attached.

So, how many chicks would i be able to keep in that space? Also, can ducks live with the chickens? Or should i keep them seperate?

No nest for this girl?
none of the goldens lay in the nest boxes...they just lay right on the ground...they will dig a hole and then walk away from it and just lay it wherever

just to let you know you need a permit for carrying more then 12 eggs....or birds or a combo of both thats y i got rid of mine...but incubation is 24-25 days and stop turning on day 22

i have close to 40 chickens in my 10x10 but they free range during the day...they get along great and they perch in the rafters at night
i personally wouldnt put anything other then chickens together but people do have success with mixing all types of birds with chickens

Do you have much for predator issues w/ them free ranging? How about human threats such as cars/trucks/mean people/etc?

I'm considering some level of free range, but only when I'm around to supervise.

Went to the doctor this morning and he told me that my arm is going to be painful for a long time; one of the consequences of operating on bone. The last surgery was February 3rd and I thought it would have been totally healed by now. It isn't, but he says it's okay, but he still wrote another prescription for another round of antibiotics. After 18 months I'm getting awfully tired of dealing with this.

I think I need to change my internet and cable tv service. AT&T bill came today and it's gone up $50. Last time it went up I reduced the number of programs we get to get the price down, but I don't think we can reduce it anymore.

I know lots of folks constantly change cable providers and insurance companies on a regular basis as a means of trying to the prices half way affordable and get better service. I'm starting to think maybe the same theory should apply to barbershops. When I started going to my current barber my hair was brown and there were no bare spots. Each time I get my hair cut there is more gray and less of it. Wonder if it is caused by their technique?

Call ATT and talk to them and tell them you're considering switching provider. I did that a couple times because the cable company had a better rate and they adjusted it down pretty significantly. That may become a yearly song and dance, but if it'll save you $50 a month, that's worth it.
