Here's one of my pekin's legs. This is looking A LOT better today. you can kinda se that abrasion-y looking spot below the joint. Yesterday that looked kinda red and irritated. Cleaned and treated again just to be safe.

What do you look for to know if you have a hen or a rooster? I'm new to chicks. We have 3 that are not quite 4 weeks. I know that's early to tell, but 2 seems to be larger and developing their feathers in one way, and the other 1 is smaller with what seems to be more feathers much quicker. I was just curious if these are things that factor in. Thanks

Some breeds are harder to tell early on. If they are the same breed, then you can compare. Like you said two are much bigger...those could be little roos. If the comb starts to redden and the wattle area reddens, then probably roo. In my experience, the girl's tail feathers get longer quicker. Things change daily and it's always fun to watch the changes.

Hello! I'm in Grand Rapids and am new to raising ducks and chickens. I have 3 bantams, unknown sex and breed. They are about 5 weeks old. I am beginning to suspect the orange and black one is male, as he really seems to care about where the other two are at all times. Any thoughts on sex or breeds? Is the white one a Cochin? (S)he's a beauty but now needs a bath.
