i'm not sure on the pattern variance - i guess its normal tho.
the gal we got the eggs from just posted on facebook for the 20 ancona ducklings she just hatched, & most of hers had very little dark spots.

So I got a call tonight from the DNR about that hawk I dropped off to them last month. from the preliminary report, he hadn't been eating much at all, and he didn't have anything injury wise that would explain why he hadn't been eating. They still have some tests to run on him yet, so hopefully they'll have some more answers about him soon.

CVAN, how is she doing? Eating and maintaining her weight? Too thin? Maybe have fecals run, if it's gapeworm, and see if her crop feels okay. Does she stop when distracted, or act like it's a seizure? Mary

Mary, she is doing well in terms of maintaining her weight. She definitely eats. But only a little at a time. She's not lost any weight either. She's too fast to catch as well, so i haven't been able to inspect her. She doesn't stop when distracted...she's quite sharp

Catch her at night when she's roosting rather than the daytime rodeo with the fish net! If you can't hold her and actually feel her body, you really can't evaluate weight loss or condition. Mary

Cool! What kind of song bird is that? I've got a few in my neighborhood too, but I'm not sure what they are. They're so brightly colored my husband can see them when I point them out.
