Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Where the heck are any New posts? All I'm seeing is 2014.... Anyway I'm looking for someone to adopt (not eat) my surprise bantom Roo. He looks like a bald eagle but pigeon sized. I got in trouble before from a nasty nosy person (not even a direct neighbor) and had to get rid of my entire flock because the city said I couldn't have him. Now I had to start over and I'm stuck with another rooster... Possibly 2. A baton and an Amaricana. They are 3 months old and I just caught them crowing. I'm so afraid the city will be called again and this time I'll get written up. I'm in Troy. Not sure where I should post this either. I don't need suggestions on calling farms. Already did that. I need good leads. ASPCA doesn't give a crap either.

Maybe ChickenStock next weekend?

well then, day 1 of broody with eggs.

I did find 2 additional eggs in the nest w/ her, so I pulled those out. She spent a while roaming around today though, so I scolded her for being a bad mom and leaving her kids :p.

After a couple hours though, she was back on the nest, and has been there all day. I think she will do fine.

I'm starting to think about the direction I want to go w/ a chicken coop build. I think I'd like to build something around 16x20, give or take. This will be the biggest thing I've built, and I don't totally know where to start. I want to get it done before winter, because even with the mild winter last year, it was kinda rough.

Ideally, I'd have a space dedicated to the critters, and a smaller space sectioned off for me to store feed/equipment in. I'd like to run some electrical out to the new coop as well. Water would be great, but I imagine that is probably only a dream.

Start with plans for constructing a basic shed.
Or you could buy a shed and fit it out.
Building your own would be best as purchased sheds usually have little to no roof overhang,
which I find to be essential for ease of ventilation in all weather.

Start sketching floor plans to scale on graph paper...showing pens, runs, doors, windows, storage.
Thinking it out on paper is always my go to, but then I'm a drafter by trade...
.......easy to fix mistakes and/or look at various configurations with paper and pencil/eraser.
