Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Pshew! Reached a milestone for this year. The muscovy are now old enough for me to sex reliably. Time to put the extra young girls on Craigslist. My acre yard is looking too busy and I still have two more sitting on nests! No more will be allowed to sit. Now I Just have to pick which project pullets if any I want to keep, band them, and then I'll list the extra of them too. Only three more cockerels left to process and they're really ready to go. They're starting to get rude to the hens and crowing. Too much male hormone going on in Chickenland. And of course, everyone is just going through too much food with all the growing birds-still mostly paying for themselves, but coming awfully close and that's with no extras, and we're going to need to stock up on "extras" like new oyster shell and replace some feeders soon, plus laying away as much egg/bird money as possible to help cover for the coming winter. WINTER...now there's a scary thought.

It's a conspiracy to get you to keep eating turkey. I remember a guy across town while I was growing up in Tennessee who bought what I believe were two broad breasted white poults for eating in the fall and he wound up being won over and keeping them as pets for as long as they lived. It wasn't very long but they did tricks and came to their names. I only met one as by the time I came over one had already passed away, but they were HUGE. I tell you there's a total conspiracy! :old

Today I stopped at the TSC, Milford, planning to buy Flock Raiser. It was dated April! Wow! I sure didn't take any home, way too old. What are they thinking? Must have found a few bags in a corner somewhere, and just put it out there. Mary

I have a hard time finding fresh feed....not enough folks buy it and so they don't restock it in a timely manner. Inventory/buying is controlled by corporate thru the computers, or at least that what the staff says.

Meet 'Blue Zeus'...my future new Flock Cock.
He's a Blue Copper Marans(so they say) and 8 weeks old.
