Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

This thread has been so dead today. Is everyone without power? Or just too busy to chat?

I was pretty busy today. Cleaned up some storm damage and did some things for neighbors. I did make it to the TSC in Bad Axe. They have Chinese ring-neck pheasants, 2 types of turkeys and "assorted" pullets. Lots of ducks too. I was very tempted.

I didn't get anything because I have to go to the city to take care of some business for my Mom's estate. When I get back, if there are still chicks, I'll will pick up a few.

I need to finish the new coop. I've done nothing on it since the storm hit on Friday. But I'm very close to having it done. Hopefully by the weekend. If I had help it would be done in a day.

We're outside doing yard work. Lots to get done. But, I do get on in the morning before I start to see what's happening.
We need to talk about Chickenstock. Let's get people interested. You all newbies know about our picnic in Lansing?

All the forums I frequent are slow lately, typical spring time.
Been busy with 2wo chicks, they went into run for first time yesterday, they weren't too pleased. They are out this morning on their own(mostly-hehe) doing better. Time will tell if they can figure out how to get back inside on their own<fingerscrossed>.
Trying to get mowers going and shit chopped down before the 4 days of rain forecast,
gets harder every year....plus just some time to wander the woods a bit and see what's what out there.

I take time every day to work out to the end of my property and return along the power lines. Often I'll go in reverse before dark. The dogs like to make the trip too.

Did that too when I first moved here ~20 years ago, with dogs, over 15 acres.
Wandering first year, marked trails the next, cutting trails the year after...mowed, skied walked, snowmobiled, them for ~15yrs. Then the bod gave out and couldn't keep trails open, now you can hardly get thru the woods for all the smilax and other growth, even in the dormant months....did keep a few trails open with help, but it's a big battle every year.<whinge> This shows part of land and most trails cut, bunch more were off to the right out of this pic, the only ones left are the double lines and inner single to the left. Center double goes out to the 'pond'(wetland/swamp), now filled with dead saplings and pier is presently well guarded by smilax/greenbriar. Whew, sorry, went off a little tangent there. Mourning the good old days working trail out in my woods, lifelong dream realized but now fading.<sniff>

Hope you feel better Bob.

My last Uggo hen has gone broody. Those Uggos sure were to broodiest girls! So I am letting her keep some eggs. I was either going to process everyone this fall and get new chicks in the spring, but if she's willing to hatch, I'll let her and still process the others and any new roos, in the fall and have a few new hens ready to lay next spring. I still have that rotten nasty roo in a coop by himself, need to process him but haven't had time. I can't even go in and give him food or water without him trying to beat me up. I think it's strange that my Sumatra rooster is so nice and friendly and the easter egger is so rotten.

Yep, Raz, good idea on the ele... Not something to mess with unless you know what you're doing... or you get what you have to deal with now. I have been busy at work and even more so at home trying to get things done outside that I neglected over winter.

We are still hoping to move south so trying to also get the house ready for sale these next couple years, and take care of moms house as well.

I picked up a little hotel dry sink, that I'm going to convert to a bathroom vanity. I almost hate to use it in the house we'll eventually sell, but maybe it would be easier to sell than with the crappy contractor cabinet that is currently there. Adding a white bowl sink on top and some mods on the drawer is all that's needed, aside from plumbing.

Though I am mulling around with the idea of adding a marble top to give a pinch more height and protect the wood top.

And I still need to get the sheep sheared!! busy busy busy!
