Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

His first attempt at herding them he ended up scaring one into the pond! Luckily she was able to flap her wings enough to avoid a complete submersion lol

I’ll be adding some Cochin Bandtam and Blue Wheaten Maran chicks to my main flock. The “big girls” are only 10 weeks so they haven’t matured. Trying to decide when it will be best to do the introduction. The new chicks are only a week old so still pretty small.
There are lots of threads on this site regarding integration of younger birds to older birds. I am super lucky that I have a broody that has done a stellar job of integrating my little chick now, almost 3wo. The flock has completely accepted the little stinker, including my rooster. It has complete run of the coop and run, and uses it with broody mama constantly.. This morning I got to watch it navigate the ramps in and out to the run. SO CUTE!

Is your 'main' flock the 10wo's?

This is how I integrate chicks:
If you've got the space to do the setup it works a charm.

Got the new feeder hackedNslashed together,
enough for 'field' testing with 'live subjects'.
This will work for chicks, and some adults can use it too.
I've found multiple feeders to be good with the growing summer population.

Have smaller one too, decided a couple more bays were needed.

I lost power sometime yesterday (Friday). I didn't notice until dark when I went in from chores. Not really a big deal except that I'm on a well and that means no water for the critters. At least I was somewhat prepared with several gallons of water.
I fired up the generator this morning to power the fridge and coffee pot so all was good.

Now the power is back on but I still have no power in the living room or exterior lights. I checked the fuse box and no circuits are tripped. Looks like I'll be needing a good electrician to check things out. I pulled a few outlets and switches and found some very funky wiring. Way above my pay-grade to fix. Only have internet by using a couple of extensions cords.

The best part of the day was seeing a bald eagle cruising the lane where the power lines run.

My son in law is an electrician, but, you're a little too far for a house call.
Given that the wiring is so funky I've decided to have a professional come in and re-wire the whole house. Hopefully I can get it done sooner than later.
Besides, I need power run to the new garage and I want it done right. Maybe even a line to the coop for a heated waterer in the winter.
Electricity isn't something I want done half-fast. I want it done right so I don't have to worry about problems.

Too bad you are so far away. My son in law in is anal about doing his job right. He's done several jobs for us, including our pole barn. When he sees quirky things, it drives him nuts!
