Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Hey all,
Does anyone in the Grand Rapids area want a free rooster? One of my chicks ended up being a rooster and we aren't allowed to have them here. He's a lovely Rhode Island Red. I need to do something with him soon as he's finding his voice.

Silly, I wouldn't put that beautiful dry sink in your house. Save it for the new house. Houses are sold by the square foot. Realators hardly look at what is in it. We updated the whole house and lost a whole lot. If things are in good shape, that all that matters. A coat of paint on the old vanity is all that's needed.

The last of our snow finally disappeared on Saturday. Ive been able to be out evenings but I’ve missed all the really nice days. Last week I had a conference, yesterday I had an election to oversee. By the time I get to be outside all day it will be blackfly swarm time!

I’m looking for heavy breed goslings if anyone hears of some say Clare north. My son wants them for 4-h. We had some lined up - goose sitting and the eggs never hatched. They found some in Marquette but that’s a bit of a drive.

Is it ridiculous how excited I am that all 15 two weeks old chicks went back in the coop by themselves after only one full day outside?
I for one vote no! I practically pee’d myself when my little one followed momma right back up the ramp the first time. It can’t ever get old! Now the baby at 3WO is on the platform with momma in the morning waiting for me to open the pop door!

Anyone in the detroit area want a rooster? (More specifically, downriver.) He's a 5.5 week old Barred Rock. Pictures posted in https://www.backyardchickens.com/threads/barred-rock-male-or-female.1237092/page-2#post-19948356

In our town, if any neighbors complain, chickens go - no recourse. My close neighbors have all given their ok for hens, but I'm sure I would lose all my chickens if I had a rooster.

If I can't find a good home, I will have to go the chicken dinner route. I could not myself, but does anyone know of a humane butcher in the downriver area?

We are living and breathing baseball in our house, I’m gone for 11 hours a day when I sub and then we have practice, more like 13 on game days. 3 more weeks and we will be down to “just” summer leagues.

It looking like ALL of my lavender ams are cockerels. Disappointing, but I can at least make splits with my Dominique chicks by fall.

Dh has been motivated to get the coop worked on, and we have the south wall finished, and 90% of the west wall done (waiting for vinyl shakes to get delivered.) I need a nice day so I can prime the rough cut oak that is on the north side....that’ll take awhile. I’m really excited about the color that we got out of mixing our 3 gallons of paint together.

Nice blue! Pretty!
My outbuildings are all gray, and I'm thinking that the coop needs some 'spice' added to the place. Maybe blue? Lavender? Red? Still with gray trim.
Tonight I moved the Wyandotte broody hen off her eggs; all a week past their hatch date, yuck. They were developing, but I just couldn't open them up to check. Something went wrong, and I'm not up to looking.
Nineteen bantam chicks in the brooder, adorable! And 25 standard chicks at the coop.
There will be birds available at Chickenstock!

I'm not that far north, but I'll be to the swap in St Louis this weekend (weather and borrowed pickup permitting). I'll have Toulouse and African goslings with me - like 8 that are around a month old. Otherwise I'm in Pierson - halfway between Big Rapids and Grand Rapids. More goslings set to hatch this weekend.

Do we have a food page for Chickenstock? Folks, please sign up if you are coming to this awesome picnic. It's always a good time. So good to meet the people on this forum and put faces to the names, and even learn the real names of people. There will be adorable chicks there, as well as hens and roosters. Bunnies. Even had puppies one year. There have been ducks and geese. Never know what will be there. Oh, and honey too! Let's talk about Chickenstock!!

I brought a ram lamb once too, though it was towards the end and I just stopped by to say hello, but that was a couple years ago. I am hoping to make it this year, but I will just be bringing myself... some food, and a raffle item if we're still doing that!
