Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Does anyone have any show quality cochins or hatching eggs? My daughter is looking to show chickens for 4h and she has fallen in love with cochins, out of all the chickens we have cochins is not one of them.

I had to go to the city to deal with mom's house and came back to find one of my turkey hens was dead. Head and chest gone. I'm thinking a raccoon rather than the fox I've seen. But I have lost a hen to the eagle. Saw that happen it was pretty amazing.

So I'm looking for more hens. Anyone have started Orpingtons? I,m hoping there will be some at CS18. That's in about 4 weeks. I'm willing to travel a bit for hens or pullets.

Worms, maggots, blood poos, half eaten poultry... so too soon to talk about Chickenstock dishes to pass? :hmm
Someone mentioned there should be a sign up list -I have not seen that was actually available? I have been away from the thread for three weeks and just checking in...

I have not seen a sign up page for food. I'm not good with computer, so someone needs to do that. Sorry, I hate computers and am so impatient. Have the slowest wi fi here.
More rain. Can't do anything outside.

I did it the last two years and people did sign up but many did not make the event. Most brought what they said they would however. I don't have the extra time and maybe someone would be better at it than I was moving forward. Raz, you are probably right and people don't think we need one.
The event will be here before you know it.

Tonight was good news/ bad news at the coop. Bantam babies hatching under the bantam broody hen! And mites AGAIN on some adults. Spraying again tonight.
BLAST those wild wrens!!!
I'm ready for Chickenstock too.
Mary

Mary, you know we have had a terrible issue with mites this last year and all winter! that was a huge problem. We now have them down to the best we can since completely tearing down the coops and spraying (thank goodness for warmer weather!)

However, I heard this will be a banner year for ticks :barnie I hope chickens find them or maybe I will look into some guineas? I really don't want those noisy birds but if they eat ticks a lot they may be worth looking into to with our tree covered jungle yard.

SOB rooster charged me 3 times today. Larry might be going to freezer camp very soon. He is such a beautiful lav Orp. If I can get some more hens soon he might be able to stay.
It was kind of funny the last time. When he jumped, I caught his feet and carried him around the yard for several minutes while he was upside down. He gets one last pass before the barbecue is lit. :drool
