Do guineas really eat a lot of ticks? I suppose with my "jungle" yard, their noise should fit right in

Mine stay mostly penned up :-( Last year we free ranged them for the month of July, and found that they preferred kale, broccoli, and leaf lettuce...
I have also never seen a tick while living in MI. Saw plenty when I lived in MN. Lucky, I guess.

DUCK LOVERS in Lower Michigan, Southeast side of the state.

It has been brought to my attention that the special ordered female duck i got in February now is in fact a drake! I ordered 2 females but lost one in transit. I had to go to TSC to get her a companion during chick days and ended up with a pekin hen and pekin drake. So with the 2 ducks i already had at home one hen and one drake (1 year old) I now have a total of 3 drakes and only 2 hens.....

I need to rehome a least one drake, possibly two drakes (3 mounths old and a year old). These guys are pets and not raised for meat. If any one you fellow Michiganders know someone looking for male pet ducks, please tag me.

Holy Moly, don't know if I've been on here this year. Well anyhoo...I have all the CS stuff at my house. The old sign-in book is probably the most important piece of Michigan Chickenstock history? Raffle tickets, and collection jar not so much. I guess I'll need to see the newest sign up page. I'll still bring some maple syrup for the raffle table and Cindy will probably bring something as well. I do have a bunch of Flemish Giant Bunnies for sale right now and might bring a few. If anyone is interested now give me a call, or text, at 231-828-5609. So there. Oh and I also have baby goats for sale, purebred Nigerian Dwarfs that can be registered with ADGA. Okay, so there.

I have a wheezy chicken (no other symptoms). Does anyone know of a vet in the West Michigan area (or within a reasonable driving radius) that can test to tell me if I'm dealing with a possible fungal or bacterial issue, that doesn't cost $400?

Or is my only other option sending her off to Lansing for a necropsy? Does anyone outside of MSU do poultry necropsies?

as far as I know MSU is it and it will cost you over $100. been some yrs since we had one and it was $100 then, and I know the price has gone up. They will do from 1 to 5 birds for that price I think. that may have changed also..

do the people with mite issues, have a good dust bath? that helps. I know all areas are different and they can be very pesky. we have been lucky, a good spray down in the coop a couple times a yr. and a good dust bath seems to keep them away.

I finally sold my big Narragansett Tom this weekend. No more having to carry a stick. I still have a pair of penciled palms. Last night I hear excessive turkey noises and go out to find four wild toms fighting with my Tom. Scared them off. Later I find one back leading off my hen. I had to chase and carry her back. She’s penned up now. This morning I have all the wild boys back in my yard. They need to go find their own hens!

I thought about baby goats as well. If(IF) goats were to follow me home I would need a mentor. I've read the books but that's no substitute for experience. There are a couple of alpaca farms nearby. FWIW.

New door installed. I'll hang the storm door after I paint the jamb.
