Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Did I mention that I hate you, John? If those kids show up at CS18, I'll hate you even more. Especially if they fit in the back of a Jeep.:celebrate
What I really need is about a dozen laying hens. I have more egg customers than birds. The new coop can handle about 30 birds but I'd be happy with about 20 and that number should be good to keep Larry the rooster busy.

I'm looking forward to Chicken Stock and hoping to fill out my little farm wish list. Maybe I should drive the big truck and/or tow the trailer. :idunno

Yeah, I won't bring any goats...maybe some bunnies. You can train them to be inside pets using a litter box. I just want to help.

not that I wouldn't mind snuggling a goat again. I used to take some bottle kids to my moms every day. They rode on the front seat in a copy paper box.

Of course, their momma liked the bottle too.... ;)

She was a good producer... 5 kids and 4 kids both times I had her bred.
All "kidding" aside, beer isn't necessarily bad for ruminants. But she did like my Shandy!
The two bottle babies were from the 5 kid batch, they were just like dogs!

I'm actually in a good position for keeping goats. I just want to do it properly so I'd like a mentor that I could ask questions of. They eat chipmunks, right? ;)

All this goat chatter... my wife and I are considering getting Boer goats. She did the dairy goat thing in 4-H as a kid (Alpine & Lamancha) and I used to come help her milk her goats. We don't want the responsibility of milking all the time, but much of the goat "infrastructure" is still around. We were thinking of seeing if any boer does go through our local 4-H livestock auction this summer. We'd pay way above market price, but kill 2 birds with one stone - support our local 4-H AND get some goats. We always try to buy something at the auction, but this year we don't want to buy anything to slaughter, because father-in-law is giving us a whole steer in Nov (I'm doing the work, but he's paying for all the feed - we're feeding out 2 that went through the 4-H livestock auction last summer as "feeder calves")

This one looks like it is enjoying a beer! ;)
