Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Nova - I can't wait to hear that you're published!

BYFM - that is a LOT of roos! If you need more EE hens I have two that are 20 weeks old tomorrow I'd let you have. They aren't laying yet but they have to be close!

I ended up getting 5 hatchery silkies, never again, and I believe 4 are roos...not sure on the 5th one yet. I don't really know what to do with them and I don't need/want them.

Ah, the roo game. I think we've all played this once or twice. Last year was our first year with chickens and out of the original 20, I got 1 roo. Then I thought I had to get bantams because they are so cute as baby chicks. I got 9 of them. 6 turned out to be roos plus an ee I got around the same time turned out to be one, as well. That put me up to 8 roos (for 32 girls). I gave 2 away to a co-worker and all but the ee were lost to predators. This spring due a save-my-roo add-on, hatch and more bantams, I got back up to 5 roos.

Ok, but when I look at my bantie boys, I really don't see a meal there. It'd be a new take on fast food. One bite and you're done. Lol
Anyway, I don't mind my boys. They protect when needed and I love listening to them try to out-crow each other. Call me crazy.

Greetings to the new folks, I love the stories. The chickens roosting in the barn rafters; been there, done that. Many mornings I'd find chicken parts and feathers, and scared survivors. Ugh!!! Coons and possoms had no problem climbing the hay or whatever and having an evening feast..Since they moved to the chicken house at night, all is well. Bears could get in, but nothing smaller. They free range during daylight with very few losses; I've never had dogs take out the flock, fortunately. Mary

I know my white one and two blue ones are Roos. Almost positive the partridge one is a roo and I'm crossing my fingers about the black one.
No, I don't separate the bantams and LF and so far they all get along just fine. Waffles is doing so well and she has a partner now. The cutest porcelain roo. He's so sweet and attentive to her. They are always together.
