Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Windless here today, although never quite reached 20. My paved road remains a solid sheet of ice with a little sand sprinkled on top, which helps not at all.

But the birds did come out for a brief time to scratch around in some fresh hay. I'd imagine they must be a little stir crazy. Egg production has increased from 1-2 to 3-4 a day.

Good luck with the hens. Posting in the area feed stores is a very good idea.

Dead calm most of the day here too. So quiet to be outside. The only "noise" came from birds and squirrels doing their thing. The hens did get a bit loud with egg songs a few times. And a couple of pecking order squabbles.

I'm afraid that I have a bully hen. A few birds have had their feathers plucked from the base of their tails. No blood, but bare skin on their backs. I haven't seen this before. They have been treated with Blue Coat for the time being.

3 eggs today.

Pullets coming into lay...mucho hormones flowing and changing of the pecking order.
Give em some animal protein!

I have a dust bath in the basement, inside a child's tent, that the handicapped chicken used. Now the silkie uses it. I pulled it out into the chicken run the last couple of days. Boy, have the chickens enjoyed getting into that tub to take baths. That's what they miss the most, I think. I give them a head of lettuce every couple of days, so they get some greens. Popcorn keeps them busy pecking, too. Bad weather coming tomorrow. Feel sorry for the poor girls.
And my dogs! They are so stir crazy!!
Get your chores done today so you don't have to be outside during the next hissy fit from mother nature!!
