Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

After some 6 weeks of this crazy business, I don't seeing it magickally returning to normal in another 6 weeks. Sadly, I agree that we should cancel CS20. Can we get the deposit back?

We have always seemed to have an ebb and flow of posters over the last 10 years. It got kind of nasty at one one and the thread was shut down. That seemed to be for the better. Got rid of a few troublemakers. The loss of folks due to health issues is sad to see. I hope everyone stays well.

Candy and Bret have very cute duckies! And lots of nice chickens, especially their Iowa Blues.
Mary

Thanks Mary :) You have always been such a great mentor to us.

I have both Facebook and this site. Due to the lack of activity here, I only check in a few times. Brett and I have been loyal supporters of Chickenstock since the first one we attended six years ago. I will miss it, but for some reason the interest in both the community around the venue and the Michigan thread has really damaged attendance the last three years. Also, there are people who commit to attending and never show up as John said which is disappointing to those who make a long trip to visit with members. Life circumstances does get in the way. Many of the "old" posters have gotten out of chickens altogether and I can see why they are not a part of the group any longer.

I feel that because of coming into a strong "old" group when I did, I was the new kid in school. I personally found it difficult to "break in" to the group or get acknowledged by some posters here. It got a little better. The frequent posters such as Aart, Follysplace, Chickflick, and Mutts always make a huge effort to include new comers to the thread. You make it worth the read :hugs

I'm always happy to see new folks check in, and hope that they stay, but like Candy says it can be hard to break into a new group. I've enjoyed Chickenstock the times I was able to go, but it is a long drive from here, and hard to do twice in one day.

Rained all last night, and been raining all day today, sharp East wind and only 40 degrees - not going to get any gardening done today. I did get my onion starts planted day before yesterday when the weather was still nice.

Yup, we both came on in 2013, this thread was screaming fast chatterfest of a tight group.

I guess you are now one of the chatterfest people. ;)
I think I lurked about a year or so before I ever posted. I just jumped in and have no regrets about doing so. I asked stupid newbie questions but never felt the fool for doing so. Even when I got tagged as a chicken "groper". 10 years later and I'm still groping my chickens. :lau

Yeah, I sure do miss our chatterfest! Gosh, we had so much fun, until we got in trouble. :lau Those "old" folks are mostly gone by the wayside. I'm still hanging on. I'm one of those that don't like letting go of friends. Can't get the newbies caught up in our madness.
The problem us oldies are chicken experts now, or so we think we are, and have no newbies asking us chick questions to get us debating what's the best way to raise them! Oh, I miss those days!
Stay home. Be smart. Don't rush going out into that big scary world they are opening up soon.
