Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Not all breeds are every day layers. There are quite a few who lay every other day or even less.
Agreed. Do not klnow which but my EE and Naked Neck are on that wagon. Got a green egg today. However it was rainy and they had to stay inside most of teh morning. So, they were all dirty. I washed them with cool water and soap and let them dry and put them in the fridge. Will cook them tomorrow for them. Since Sophia gave me an egg yesterday, she gave me nothing today. Funny, she sees me and runs towards me and squats. Is this normal or is she thinking I am a roo? That will never happen, lol

Well, Thank you for all the love. I could do nothing due to rain in the morning and by the time it stopped it was 1pm. He came home around 145pm and just showered and sat in teh living room with me and drank coffee. He began sighting and I knew it was because I was watching re-runs of Gray's Anatomy, so I got up and went to bed and took a nap. He stayed watching tv and when I got up an hour later, I went to do some work outside and he just watched tv while I was in the sun and heat trimming around the trees in the back and part of the fence, run and temp run as well as back of the house. I was short of another extension to reach the fence in the back but will look for one tomorrow somewhere in teh garage, lol Then I should reach the back and maybe before he comes back from work and the sun is not in the west, I might be able to do the front of the house. Stopped around 7pm and just stayed in the back and sat in a wicker chair that the girls have not used yet and poo on it. I sat there looking at the sky, singing and the girls around me talking whatever it was. I talked back to them but I am not quite sure we had a complete understanding. :lau
So I am collecting 4 eggs a day since the Naked Neck Sophia and the EE Blanch have their weird schedule. I think I need more hens. I can only have 10 but I am going to play stupid and get me 5 more and not count the seabrights. They are like pigeons anayways. The problem is that at these places like FFH and TSC they have bantams or those with feathered feet. I think they look cute but not for me. I adore my Phoebe, Rachel and Monica but Monica always gives me a good size egg every day. She is an ISA brown.
Oh, and guess what? Phoebe is laying in the nest boxes finally. :celebrateSo today I removed the plastic one.
And, since I took 2 Benadryl and 2 Naproxen last night, I had no muscle pain ttoday from the drumfit last night!!!:thumbsup
Well,My lovelies, I am heading to bed. I wake up at 3am and then again at 6 to get the girls out. So this old lady is cooping out,lol

Love ya all!

So maybe I'm not fired. My manager called to ask me when I was coming back. I was taken off the schedule but she says I was put back on for next week. I don't think anyone actually knows what is going on. I certainly don't know. Communication has never been very good at the store.
stores are understaffed but don't seem to be in a hurry to fix the problem. I know several people who have applied for jobs at big box stores, aldies, similar places and had 2 and 3 interviews then never hear from the stores.

I bought a watermelon (since mine "disappeared" from my garden last week). I got it mostly for the chickens; I love good watermelon, but DH is not a fan. So-so melon isn't worth it to me, but the birds will probably like it.

Tomorrow they'll get water with electrolytes too.

At what age can I take down the fence between the bigs and the littles? They will be 12 weeks on Monday.
Yeah, I'm kind of wondering this too...? @aart? @RaZ? anyone? Mine are 8 weeks old; it's been 3 weeks since they've been in the run.

I don't think the bottom hen is "used to" them enough yet. She still goes for anyone close enough on the other side of the fence.

I hope to get the new door built for the run tomorrow, but it might be Monday. Then everyone get a whole bunch more space.

I don't waste good melon on chickens, I do freeze the rinds for them tho.
..and sometimes freeze the melon for myself, especially if it's good and ripe and I can't eat it all before it goes 'bad'.
If you do feed them the melon flesh, be ready for bluish juicy poops.

There's no specific age to integrate, much depends on the process you have followed for introduction(see not touch, etc).
Eventually you have to bite the bullet and take the barriers down.

You might have to put her in a time out when you let the chicks out.
