Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Oh I did….apparently, she mentioned to him I was single. I work in a male dominated industry and can hold my own. I was incomfortable from day one. You know how you just get a bad vibe in your gut. That was this guy. He Recently moved to town. I went to his class to do Pilates, not and interview for a date.

I just want to be a girl just having a beverage with her chickens. Is that to much to ask! Geez🙃

I have a bunch of husks that I cut up to throw in my pile out back. Is that something that can be tossed in the coop for the girls?
I let the husks and silk dry totally, then throw it in the run as 'bedding'.
Sometimes I'll toss in the already gnawed cobs for them to peck at.

So it is becoming harvest season!!! How is everyone’s garden coming along. I do not have a garden perse but several tomatoes, cucumbers, and peppers in pots. I read that I can do a late planting of peas and beans that I might get in on. Anyone planting fall crops?

I frequent a local farm market and asked what they did with their cast offs and veges that they cant sell if I could bring a couple of bins to get some vege scraps for the girls. I simply dont eat enough veg to have scraps for everyone.

They told me they throw what they dont sell onto the compost pile and I am welcome to come as I please to take what I would like. Their produce is wonderful and I figured, why not…

That leads to my question…It is becoming sweet corn season and I have been participating A LOT!! I have a bunch of husks that I cut up to throw in my pile out back. Is that something that can be tossed in the coop for the girls? I am picky about their scraps but thought even if they dont eat the cut up sections, it is good stuff for them to rummage through. Thoughts?

Heading downstairs to get on the bike now. I am trying to get back to training again. Covid threw me for a loop and with no races last year and coming off of a shoulder injury in 2019, I am way out of shape and trying to get back at it.

I attempted Pilates with a friend and the instructor turned out to be a creeper and followed me home to see where I live. Let’s just say, had he driven up the hill, he would have been escorted down w a vehicle that had lights and a siren….not cool.

Okay…off I go. Cheers and hope everyone is staying cool.
Yes I always plant a small fall crop like sugar snap peas, lettuce, radishes, carrots, cabbage. Always have a big garden each year for me and the birds. They love it all but mostly like the zucchinis, older over grown cucumbers with all the mature seeds in them. and the cabbage I hang from a rope for them to peck at gives them something to do. I also get to raid a few old pumpkin patches and I try to let them freeze for the winter and break a few in each pen through out the winter , same with cabbage let them freeze and hang them from a rope both work out for me to give all my birds through out winter. I just keep them in a shaded area out in pasture next to compost pile under trees out of sunlight and they stay frozen all winter well most of the time.

Hi Everyone! Hope you are all staying dry. It has been raining around here. All morning had to keep the girls in and they were not happy at all. But had 4 eggs. One from Sophia, the naked neck, had soft shell and I told her, what happened and she pecked at it and it broke. I grabbed it and did not let anyone have it. Straight to trash.

After last night's outrage drive, I had a talk with hub. He said he was sorry but by the time he gets home I have done it all. I told him that not all and it would be nice for him to help and at least be asked if I can use some help even if I decide to say no. It is the intension of helping at least. I know he is tired but I am tired too. I cannot put more work because I am weak and old, That he needs to either get with the program or go. He told me that he loved me. I said, well, that was a weird way to do so and that he needed first to learn to love from the master of love and then he can love others like his parents, his sibblings and children ( I know I kept myself out of the equation on purpose, lol). Before I realized, he was getting dress and went to church with me. Everyone was in complete awe,lol They know he had gone astray from the church and his commitment with me a long time ago and that we were separated. Anyways, we stopped at a restaurant by Montague and he tried to flirt with me but I slashed out in a heart beat. Yes, @rose, I read your advise, (giggling) Shoots, even when I was 20 no man could give me adrink and made it to bed with me, why would anyone now that I am 59? It is not gonna happen. As young I was a big player but never got in my pants. I always prey who I wanted and not preyed on, lol

ok, back to the chickens, I noticed something weird looking on the ground today. Seemed like claws of a racoon? not sure but whetever it was seemed like it tried to go up the wall and slided. Cannot be a racoon because the area is covered with plastic and they can go through that very easily. Anyways, Hub did some cement around the blocks under the coop. He said that it will be better to close it up but I will not be able to crawl under to check for any rodent marks. I am not worry about air predators because it is fully enclosed. I took the chicken wire out and replaced it with hardware cloth (1/2 in) and I am doing the same with the top. One area has the clear roof but the other areas will be clothed in. I am not letting anything climb and find a way in through the chicken wire.
It is raining again outside and just lost power in the house. I am freaking out now. I need to find a way to get a power plant., a used one, not too expensive. Crap, my sister has a super powerful one in PR but I have not even flashlights nor candles. I need to get some sort of stuff this week. At least candles. I do not mind not having light but not ac. That will kill me,lol
I was reading about the hemlock by Michelle. I searched for pictures because I have no clue of what it is. Oh my, I do have a few of those plants around. I better get cracking at that too. Jeebers, I only have an acre and I am exhausted of all teh work, I bow to you all that have way more than this. Well, I better also get cooping myself. Work week is in a few hours and up by 3am and then back up by 6 for the girls. I love you all.

Reading this made me feel sick to my stomach. Too creepy! I'm glad it didn't go any further, but am sorry it happened. Stay safe!

Thanks…frustrating to say the least!
Covid kicked me in the teeth regarding my confidence and I was explicit that I needed someone to help me kick start training.
Won’t be going back. On a good note though I’ve returned to running and got back on the bike. Now I just need to get back in the water and put it all together.
Progress!
