Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Dream, if it's just lightly raining, I still let my chickens out, as long as they have a place to go to get dry. The pop door is open, and you have a half covered run and you have the area under your coop. Chickens would love to go and dust bathe. Chickens sure don't like being cooped up. And, on hot days, they don't seem to be bothered by the light rain.
Have a great day, all

At this time the do not but the entrance to my kitchen. Well, they hang in there no matter what waiting for me to drop them something, :lau Waiting for the cement to dry out before letting them where they can go under the run. I also leave them in if I have to go somewhere and they cannot be watched over. Besides the coop is almost a house of 12 x 13. It is like a small room that only needs a twin bed in it and done. OH! That gave me an idea!!! No, I am not that bad even if I should, :lau :lau

But funny thing this morning after I came back from court ( nothing yet but the lady said is working on my case) I gave them a few blueberries by the kitchen door and then noticed like if they were eating their own poop. When I opened the door, it was a fart egg with no shell or maybe they had it and they were just drinking it. I stopped them and poured hot water on the back porch. I do not want them to get used to that. And also this moning before leaving them, I found an egg in a nest box whixh I am sure I checked at 830pm last night when I put them in the roost that there was no egg there. So that egg has no ownerso far just like the fart egg by the kitchen. Now that you mentioned, I need to see about the dust bathing for the hub used the one I had prepared for them. More likely, they will dig more under the coop.:idunno:confused::hit:he:barnie

A joke! I have a joke for all of you!!!

Went to take the grit and oyster shells inside the coop and the girls were already inside. The windx blew and the door closed. I noticed that I had the pin inmy hand. No light no cell phone and nobody to get me out. Had to take the poop scraper, thank God is was dry,, buy still it was the scoop scraper and began trying to unscrew the hardware cloth from the inside because now the window opens from the outside and hub closed it because of teh rain. He was in the showere when I came out. He was getting ready to go to sleep. I am thinking that I might have to sleep in the coop with the chickens. After I got 3 screws and washers out, I was able with the scraper to push the window open a little bit. All I was thinking was that if he does comes to the kitchen and does not see me, he might think I am in the computer and close the curtain and lock the door. I kept unscrewing screws and noticed he was in the kitchen and began to bang on the coop wall bythe window. He heard the noise and opened a bit the kitchen sliding door. I screamed, I am stuck in the coop. He got shoes on and opened the door for me.

It is ok, laugh all you want because I have been laughing at myself too.!!!

Love you all!

That is a fantastic story!!! That made me laugh. At least you know you did a good job people proofing your coop from the inside! Note to self….never go into the coop without your phone.

Impressed you could do this in the dark!

So you have one of the auto lock latches, eh?
Change that sucker out asap.

LOL! Welcome to the club! I locked myself in one of my coops several years ago. After that incident, I have a string tied to the outside latch running through a small hole in the wall so I can pull it and unlock it from the inside. Of course I won't mention the time when the string broke...

The Sparta Celtic Festival will be this Saturday, Aug.14th in Sparta. There is a Michigan (Grand valley State U grads!) band called Crossbow playing. They. Are. GOOD. DH and I will be there, for sure.

The Michigan Irish Music Festival in Muskegon was canceled back in May, perhaps a little prematurely. Though bands come from Europe to play, so I can see why they did it. However, there is going to be a smaller festival on September 18th. We're going to that too. We love these two festivals, and want to support them.

If anyone is going, let me know; I'd love to meet people and and say hi.

I've got locked in the coop more than once! And no, I didn't have self locking. And once in my neighbors chicken run!! Always a good laugh when you think back on it!
In between all the camping trips and normal chores, I've been making baby zombies. Got a bunch of dolls and painting them creepy. My idea is to have them all walking in a line. We do a Halloween Camp trip where we decorate the camp site. It's in September. It's pretty fun. I have a lot of decorations. A LOT. Well, got to go and do chicken chores before it rains again. Have a good day....
