Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

What was once a 4x8 skid is now 21 separate boards. It's pine, so some of the boards have some trashed spots, but plenty enough to make some chicken furniture!

The first thing will be a table to go next to the plastic chair I bought. Then a 3-sided shelter to put around one of the food areas. Maybe two of those, if I have enough wood. I have some scraps of metal roofing I can use too. DH, can you get another skid from work soon?

Dreamz, glad you're back. Hang in there!

The Danish Festival was fun. I got some socks and more garden gloves, and that was my main goal. We ran into a former coworker; he's now retired and enjoying that. I was hoping the woman who has been there several times with some REALLY nice tie dye would be there, but she wasn't. I wanted to buy another of her shirts.

That’s a great idea!! You are giving me inspiration for the super long skid left in my front yard from the electric company when they ran the line. It literally looks like a dock to a beach…heck it could be with all the other junk I have found on this property. I swear Jimmy Hoffa is buried up here. :lau

I am going to head over to the Michigan Titanium triathlon tomorrow and root on some of the athletes. That was my primer race in past years and hopefully I will get some motivation to get back to my serious training blocks and get back to racing myself.

@Dreamzchaser ….you gave me an idea for a temp run for the girls. They are in a covered run which is very secure, but I feel badly they have no opportunity to pick at the weeds which my yard is FULL of. What would the downside be if I put up the orange fencing to keep them corralled for a bit? I would be out there with them, but I just dont feel comfortable letting them roam free. I know they’re not dogs and my old pooch was a runner. I am just concerned they would venture off and wouldn’t come back.

I know…silly. They have plenty of room in the coop. Am I overthinking them being bored in there. The run is technically large enough for 13 -14 full size birds and I have 9. Just feeling a wee bit guilty over them not being able to stretch their wings so to speak.

Heading down to get on the bike now. Have a great night and wonderful morning.

For our first time ever, I'm treating our current chicks with Corid for coccidia. One had bloody poo this morning, can't get fecal results back until Wednesday, and afraid to wait that long. Blast!
It's been so wet, and hot, this might/ must be the year for it. They are Cornishx mostly, and here we are. Bad enough that's it's so very hot, nobody needs this too.

She is alive. I have been very busy with her and other stuff. I gave up. I had to cut her loose. She has her medication every morning and is not a white chicken anymore. She has been rolling in the dirt like a lose dog for sure. I had a pen in the yard but let her sleep with the others in the coop since she stays only to one corner and I can see through the camera if she moves and see her poop in the morning. After 8 days, I let her out. She drove me insane walking up and down that pen. It was like a jail to her. She would not eat unless it was close to the sides and the others will push through to reach her food and she will eat with them. I made her a nest box and covered it with card board. Got tarps and made shades for her. I did all I possibly could until I gave up. She is laying double yolk eggs but I am feeding them back to her until the end of the month since she is taking medications.
I miss you all too. My depression level has been to all time high with this girl. I wish I could give her a bath and make her white again but it will take about 5 hours to do so and dry her up completely with the blow dryer. Then she will be all full of dirt in 10 minutes, lol

I should have come earlier to give you update but I could not. She eats her feed fine and her poop is not runny. I can see grass and all she ate the day before. Her crop is full at night and empty in the morning . I do not let her eat anything in the mornings until she has had her medication to make sure it works good against any bacteria in the walls of her crop. I do offer feed before I take her out. She takes a little but prefers to eat with the others. The little seabrights were her best companions while in the pen. They always hang around the pen. A few times the others will come and hang out but then they would be chickens and take off. Speaking of the seabrights, Tamera, the bigger one had laid eggs. They are like a pigeon eggs in alight brown color just like Sophia's the naked neck. They are all laying daily. Only one more eggcident the other morning before 6am. I let them out by 630am and bring Phoebe inside and give her her medication and I drink coffee with her. Today I talked a lot with her and even forgot to take my medications. Now I have a hard case of heartburns. It will go away hopefully befor ethe night falls.
I took down the temp run eventhough the real run is not finished. I used the orange stuff to enclose it and they go down the cleaning door after I go in and take Phoebe in a towel with me. They also go in by themselves. No need for the shovel anymore. It was pretty hot here today. It went up to 90. I cut a watermelon and gave them some and a few frozen bluberries that I have left. They drank 4 bottles of water today so far.
One of the little seabrights, not the laying one but Tia, I noticed that she has no full crop at nights like the others. I am not sure if I need to be concerned about that. She eats last and not as fast as I would want her to be when it comes to get food. Unlike flying around, she is the first one out,lol
Well, I am going to let you all go and keep reading around about all of your adventures.
~Hugs~and~Kisses~
Nice to see you back on here Dreamz. We sure missed you

I have a large fenced in area that my hens free range every day. they can leave the area and go out front but rarely do. those that do always find their way back, no problem

Mfranks, your birds have no run? You have them in the coop all the time??
Yea, the birds know to come back to roost for the night.
Had a fun day with family celebrating our 50th wedding anniversary. How time flies!
Wow 50 years!!! What a wonderful milestone! Congratulations.

sorry I didn’t clarify…yes they do have a covered run that is secure. Well as a secure as it can be w one foot deep foormters with HC draped around 2+feet around run. The run is large enough for 15 birds and I have 9 so they have room in the run and access to the coop anytime which is 8x8 on the floor. They get fresh green snacks when I have scraps but I feel bad that they don’t get to roam.
The bigs got to free range in the early evening at my old house but never been out of the run here. And the littles are totally spastic and have not been out of the run ever.

you’re allowed to say this is an over reaction and guilt that they don’t get to roam.

Here's the first thing I made from that skid:

Tomorrow I want to make some kind of 3-sided enclosure to put around a feed/water station. I might make two of them so that there are more food places that can be out of direct line of site to help with the littles' integration.

I'm hoping the fence can come down later this week. I want to set up my plastic chair next to my new table, have a nice cup of coffee, and sit with my chickens.
