Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Hi everyone. Been awhile (again). Farm's been pretty busy and I'm admittedly a bit slower. Have some Nigerian Dwarfs for sale, sold all this years Flemish Giant Buns. Been selling produce and all proceeds going towards my annual Alzheimer's Walk and Fundraiser. Hope everyone is doing good. Looks like we missed another year of our annual gathering (Chickenstock). Hopefully science will decide when we can get together again. Next up - Salmon will be in the rivers!

Glad to hear from you!
And keep wearing those face masks, everyone. Things aren't better out there yet...
I kept hoping for Chickenstock too, but next year!
We belong to the Midwest Ox Drover's Ass'n, and last year we didn't meet at all. This year we managed to meet in late June, at Tiller's near Kalamazoo, our usual place. All outdoors, large tent, and tornado warnings! Nice thunderstorm weekend, but no C-19 and no actual tornadoes, thank God!
By late summer, meeting would have been a terrible idea, sadly.
Next year!!!
Mary

Looks like pecking or mating damage...common in that area.
How old is she, in weeks or months?
Good morning!
They all are about 29 to 31 weeks old. It cannot be matting since I have no roo but heard that sometimes a hen can mount just for the fun of it (weird). About a month ago, she was dust bathing and Monica was pecking on her in that area and she did not move, so I thought it was a way of them helping remove old feathers. But now that you said it that way, maybe they are all against poor Blanch? There is no blood at all but seems like old scaling? I do not know.

Good morning everyone! Hope you all are ready for this long weekend! Bologna, I know we all have lots of chores around farms and want to be farm like me,lol But nevertheless, we should enjoy days to just gather and ponder on what we all have.

@RaZ sorry about your pain. It must be really bad. Besides resting, are you taking any ibuprofen or any OTC med? When will they tell you about teh x-rays? Hope you get feeling better soon.

They girls are doing fine. Phoebe is laying "duck' eggs. Some with 3 yolks. I gave last week 30 eggs to a friend. and 2 weeks before another 30 eggs. God has blessed me abundantly. They are not all laying every day and teh eggcidents still happen but they are all hens. I have no pullets anymore. Even the tiny raptors are laying the cutest fairy eggs!

Well, Riss, seems like you will be having your own place soon. I am happy for you.

I will sign out for a bit. Very tired and need a shower after workout.

Got the cement all done. Now letting it sit. Probably gonna do the door frame tomorrow but won’t be able to do much till it completely sits

Wow, Cool Beans!!
How thick is it...any rebar or mesh in there?
Do you know that you've got to keep it damp until it fully cures in a couple weeks or so?

Today was day 4 of the integration saga. I think it's going very well! I go out at dawn and open everything up. I have 3 food bowls, 3 waterers, and start the day by sprinkling about a cup and a half of their food in small piles in several places around the run. I think that distracts Lark from wanting to chase the chicks too much right at first, before they can get a good breakfast.

I do the same thing with their mash snack: put spoonfuls of it in lots of places around the run. I might be going through food faster, but if it makes integration go better, to me it's money well spent.

The chicks are 13 weeks old now. I really should call them pullets, I suppose. My hens started laying just after 19 weeks, so... maybe, maybe? the pullets will start by mid-October...? :fl
