Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

bread? Where is the bread? I love bread... No fruits on it just plain bread. OMG! I think I love you,...

I wonder if you can make Puertorican or cuban bread. I can't bake for anything in the world. Everything I try is not good or burns. I can roast in the oven and that is the extent of my oven culinary edition, lol
Yep, just plain bread! (With a little butter, of course!)

Send me a recipe and I'll let you know how it turns out!

I entered a bread recipe in one of the contests, and it is quite literally the easiest yeast bread I have ever made - no kneading, and only one rise.

The thing about baking (as opposed to cooking) is that you have to follow the recipe closely, as the proportions have a big impact on the outcome.

Batter Pepper Rye Bread (you can leave the pepper out or reduce it if you want)

I'll try this recipe as well!

I have to get some strawberries as I was going to make a sweet bread with strawberry glaze.

Today I made baked oatmeal which will last us a couple mornings.

For me, the hard thing about baking is not inhaling an entire loaf of bread.

I'm going to disagree with following the recipe. I only follow the recipe if it my first time baking the whatever. After that I'll start winging it with the ingredients. I'll be close to what the recipe calls for sometimes. It used to drive my Mom crazy to watch me bake anything. She would get so mad at me. Especially when she would admit that my baked goods were better than hers. I think that POed her more than anything.

I do the same thing when I brew beer. Some beer recipes are very exacting but I will almost always do some ad libbing.

Come to think of it...I am always playing fast and loose with the recipe, rules, directions, heck even laws. :D

This is one of them but I am not sure how it comes out. I do love it plain or with butter but it is great to make sandwiches. Oh, with garlic is so delicious too.
Funny fact: My grandfather used to give me the ends of the bread full of sugar. Maybe that is why I love sugar, lol

Here is a youtube video. It is not the one I have tried but hopefully it works.

Never though beer can be made at home! Good to know. I like Heineken once every other year, lol

Michigan is one of the top states for home brewing. Same for micro-breweries and wineries. GR is a hot spot for the micro-breweries and Traverse City and Leelanaw Peninsula for wineries. We have a craft brewery here in Caseville and even a whiskey distillery. Not too shabby for a small town. :)
