Nice, @Dreamzchaser!

I took the broody breaker crate out of the coop today. Widget stayed outside all day yesterday, and went to roost last night. I covered the nest boxes, just in case. I might do that tonight too. Take 15 seconds. Today she was outside, acting like one of the girls. Well, the bottom one of the girls.

I like to let them out a couple hours before roost time and leave the nests uncovered,
then I know that night if they are done instead of finding them back in the nest halfway thru the next day.

Am mentally gearing up for the heat wave, got up to 80 today and even that didn't feel good.

Ah! Yes, good idea. I'll keep this in mind for the next time she goes broody. I get the feeling she might be doing this fairly often.

I do the same. I have to close everything because I have found her inside the big coop on top of the other eggs, lol I closed it tonight but she is sleeping on a piece of wood instead of with the other and Pitbull. They just take turns. No eggs from either one. They just want to sit on the ceramic egg.

Pitbull has found a way around when I am busy and has pecked Rachel (RIR) on her crest and made her bleed. It is only with her. She runs towards me when she can and flies over to my shoulder, head or whatever, lol

If I get too busy, I need to put him inside with his girls for a few hours. I dislike that because I want him to be out like everyone else. He is getting smarter and knows how to avoid me,lol I cannot kiss him as much, lol

On another note, what is up with all these salmonella in backyard chickens? Aparently in 38 states so far. I do not want to go anywhere. Between covid, monkey pox, hepatitis A, listeria and only God knows what else, I feel safe at home, lol

Mocha is broody, I'm pretty sure. I wondered last night when she was evidently planning to spend the night in the nest. When I carried her to the roost, she let me and then she settled on the roost so I wasn't sure. Today, though, she didn't come down off the nest for rye seeds or for sunflower seeds.

This is almost good timing. Two weeks ago would have been better. It is finely, finely, finely almost time to get some chicks to raise. Maybe I can wait another 20 days or so and see how she does with them.

Best not to do that, if you are concerned about salmonella. ;)

Have you checked the blastodisc when breaking egg to eat?

Yes, they look like the fertile one but I eat them, lol. I had 2 eggs from her sister from the 10th and the 11th of June, so I went and took the ceramic out and found another one from today from her sister and put them under her. She will not give up being broody and things being so expensive lately, I decided to let her do her thing. It takes 24 days, right? If no peeps I guess I will trash them after that. I have a set up for peeps. Closed but next to papa and real mama. Would that be ok?
