Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

John, do you still have goats you need to re-home or sell?

1. Realizing that 5 out of 5 people present did NOT get stung.
2. Watching the Kentucky Derby...?

While the Kentucky Derby is a thrill, it does not have the visceral thrill of being surrounded by the humming hive and knowing that if things went wrong they could go very wrong.
Maybe the jockeys feel that way though.

Does any Yoopers know of a nice place to stay, like a cabin or so. I am not crazy about lots of people places. I like quietness, good food ( nothing mexican) and nice people.

I missed the Derby. Had to work. Today (Monday) is day 5 of a 6 day work week. Next day off is Wednesday but I won't get to sleep in. Follow up appointment for the shoulder surgery. Shoulder feels pretty good.

Wild turkey have been coming to my yard several times a day. The tom has a pretty good beard and a harem of 10 - 12 hens. There are also a couple of jakes coming in too. It has been a great spring for bird watching. I need to get my hummingbird feeders put up. They have been spotted in BA.

Have a good week ya'll.

IF you want a lot of privacy but fewer eating options, then Naubinway, Manistique, Curtis, and Brevort area are all very small but pretty places. The Balsams resort just west of St. Ignace is on a fabulous sandy beach with really unique individual cabins, and not far from town. Cedarville/Hessel area is really lovely.

I saw an oriole this morning. First of the season for me. Luckily I had a jar of grape jelly that I was able to put some out. For some reason grape jelly has been scarce around here. There were 2 cases on today's truck so I snagged a couple of jars for myself. It's jam not jelly. I don't know what the difference is. I just hope the orioles keep coming back. Such pretty birds.
Hummingbirds have also been spotted locally so I got a bag of sugar to make nectar. I also picked up 2 hanging baskets of fuschis from a local greenhouse. The plants aren't in bloom yet but they will be soon enough.

I love this time of year when everything is waking up and showing all of the new growth.

Jelly is made by cooking the fruit, mashing it, and then it goes into a cheese cloth or pillowcase bag suspended over a bowl, so the juice drips out over ten hours or more. Then either pectin is added and cooked, or it's cooked longer to activate whatever pectin is already present.
The only jelly I make spiced crabapple, from Dolgo crabapple trees here.
Jam is mad from the entire fruit, crushed. So more good stuff present!
Mary
