Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

I've been playing catch the escaped chick since yesterday when she jumped out of the brooder. She is contained in the garage but hides under stuff when I try to grab her. I don't have a net. I'll keep trying. Damn chickens.

I've received a lot of rain this past week but there have also been some pretty nice hours mixed in. The car cruise and show were rained out over the weekend. Another is coming up this weekend. I may not have the LTD ready. I broke a bolt off in the alternator. I'll probably have to replace the whole unit. I hate to do that since the alt is the original and it works fine. I'll do whatever I have to do. I want the car back on the road. It might have to wait for completion on Friday. I'll be working tomorrow and the next day.

I was planning to go see my SS and the grandsons on Friday. I have to renew the plates on the cars first. I just have tp find the renewal forms.

Hi lovelies, there has been not much rain here but by midnight last night, it woke me up. It was a torrential rain, lol
Everyone is free ranging fine. A usual, some older girls get the Sussexes, the sussees after the brown leghorns and the those after the buckeyes. However, the buckeyes get along with babies because they are about the same size.

However, Lupita ditched the kids and pecks at them at closing time. So today, she is learning a hard lesson. In a cage with Jlo and she is getting pecked by her. Pitbull is my beloved boy caring for the babies. They look so cute tonight!

I love hearing about your birds!! Also love that you have your camera in your coop. I put mine in, but think I need to move it to the other side where I can see the roost and nest boxes. Gonna end up with a lot of drilled holes 😂

Any thoughts on tossing something light (pillow case or sheet) over her? That’s how I always used to catch a wayward cockatiel.

Although, I suppose if she’s got food and water no biggie waiting it out.

When I went out the second time there was another escaped chick. Both were under the brooder which is on wheels. I placed open boxes all around it and when the chicks went into the box I flipped them up and got the chicks back in to the brooder. I think it's about time that I can move them into the coop. More room and easier to contain them.

Worked my butt off today. Car, tractor, yard, and other piddly things. Now I'm exhausted and hungry. Supper, shower, and then bed. I have an early appointment tomorrow to see why my elbow surgery from weeks ago isn't healing. It's a nice, gnarly, open wound...if you like that kind of thing. :D

Nicely done chicken wrangler. Although it’d be funnier if the boxes were propped up with sticks on a string…

I’ll pass on the open wound visuals…

Hey, everybody. I've been back and forth about my jerk-face Wyandottes for a minute now. While they are EXCELLENT layers, they are just jerk-faces.

I have two. One is about in the middle of the pecking order and is a feather picker (but not terribly bad) and she goes after the other Wyandotte, who is at the bottom of the pecking order.

The one at the bottom of the pecking order goes after my bantams and gets picked on by the other girls. She can't seem to learn her place and is always running from someone. Yesterday, my nearly head-hen mounted her and grabbed her comb.

Is there anyone who can give me some peace of mind? Maybe I'm overreacting. I feel overwhelmed with two new birds being added (silver lacewing bantams) and just want everyone to get along! Do I need to give them more space? They have a run that is 64 Sq ft, but maybe it isn't enough. I have 5 standard sized birds and 3 bantams.

The "babies" are now 7 weeks old and have been sleeping in the big coop the last two nights. Last night, they all rooster together and they were all fine. Whew. This chicken thing is easy to overthink, huh?
I had 3 and called them terrorists, lol they finly went to meet the other virgins after encountering my knife.
