Going thru this for the past few weeks. My Isa Brown "lady" spent a few nights in the nest box. Then a BCM hen "Joannie" started sleeping in the nest box. (2 separate flocks but kinda struck me funny that both are head hens from each flock)Weds-Fri are supposed to be dry, so I'll be doing a lot of winterizing in the run. I did notice that the chickens spent a lot more time hanging out in the coop yesterday. The filters over the openings made it almost draft free. The pop and people doors were still open, but the wind was from the west. The doors open to the north.
I have one hen who is sleeping in the nest box, but she has lots of pins sticking out, so she is definitely allowed. That rule is not enforced on molting hens.
But I agree, I have to clean them first thing but it's allowed. Sad seeing them poor girls suffering especially when temps have dropped like they have with the wind and all this rain.
