Yup, I'm a misplaced Brit living in WA. One year when my brother came to visit, he told me he was landing in La Guardia N.Y., and would get a cab to my house (in California)

I think I visited Michigan once.

I posed the question "what does Santa Claus do in the spring?" The answer is that he goes turkey hunting with me.

Actually a picture of my best friend. He and I have know each other since high school. It is amazing to go places with him and watch the faces of little kids when they see him.

All of those jars of canned tomato sauce from all of those indigo rose tomatoes I was inundated with over the summer are coming in super handy right now in the dead of February. We're snowed in, school cancelled, kids sick. The chicken soup is boiling on the stove but I needed something for lunch, in a pinch. I don't keep Campbell's soups because of the MSG and salt. So I pulled out a pint of said tomato sauce, thinned it with some milk and water and added some onion powder, garlic powder, salt, pepper and basil. Voila! Almost canned tomato soup but better! That and some grilled cheese sammiches. Great with a dollop of homemade yogurt. The kids gobbled it up. Well, as fast as their flu would let them anyway. Might plant some of those tomatoes again this year.

I make my own tomato soup too with just about the same recipe you used. It's so good!

I have an almost 2 year old with very bad manners, and she's totally unmanageable. But she's a puppy in training - even so, she can't get away with being a meany. (she's simply too big to get away with stuff)

been pretty busy the last couple of days.. not on here much. lots of catching up to do..

welcome to all the new people

I took my 16 yr old son to the Emergency Room wednesday for chest pain, he had a irregular ekg.. they did cardiac workup.. and decided he had pericarditis. which is inflamed outer lining of his heart.. so yesturday had to call and make a appt with a pediatric cardiologist in saginaw. which is 2 1/2 hrs away.. he did a ekg and said it was normal yesturday day so that was good news.. and from the cardiac ultrasound he said there wasnt any fluid around his heart and looked good. so my son hasnt been to school since monday. my poor son, he is on the swim team and there end of year big 2 day swim meets was this weekend and he cant swim it.. plus he is one of the faster swimmers on the team.

I am just greatful he is doing better.. and not in pain anymore and getting better..

pretty scary..

HA! We should have known. Is wild turkey tasty? I joked to my in-laws once about keeping turkey roadkill (since they kept flying in front of my car - even though I've never actually hit one) but they all made faces and said they tasted nasty on account of the fact they ate very little. I don't think one of them has ever tried it; these are people who have only ever eaten butterballs so...

I was in Frankenmuth one day several years ago, with my family, when an off duty Santa walked by. He was instantly accosted by all the children within a 10yard radius, except for my kids who were scared to death of him. I felt sorry for the guy. Can't even walk down the street. Love his beard though! He was cool. Being off duty, he was more apt to speak with the adults.

I just brought in a HUGE 95g egg from the BR hen of mine that was sick a few weeks ago. She's laying again!!! I candled it for fun (since I had my handy-dandy homemade candler on hand from setting eggs yesterday) and it's a double yolker, predictably. It will make a nice breakfast tomorrow or perhaps a really fun deviled egg.
