Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Wild turkey actually is quite tasty. The breast isn't as white as a domesticated bird and they do taste slightly different. I use the legs for soup and the breast I slice, dip in egg, roll in bread crumbs, then fry. Good eats.

Talking of food. . .

Himself finally made some cold smoked salmon. He took it out of the smoker this morning, and I've been nibbling. It is soooo wonderful. His hot smoke is good, but this is simply divine.

I agree that cold smoked salmon is much better than hot smoked. Having the ability to cold smoke is one of the reasons that I spent so much time and effort designing and building my smoker.

So much for being in da banana belt of da UP! SO MUCH SNOW! Much more than last year. But the issue isn't the quantity, it is the drifting. I can clear the driveway, chickencoop, and goat paddock entrances. Then less than an hour or two later, it looks like I never even touched it all. I am sure to throw the snow downwind, but it is just fresh snow being blown into place.

So what else do you smoke? This was a Christmas present to him, so the slamon is his first try. Any ideas/recipes would be wonderful

been pretty busy the last couple of days.. not on here much. lots of catching up to do..

welcome to all the new people

I took my 16 yr old son to the Emergency Room wednesday for chest pain, he had a irregular ekg.. they did cardiac workup.. and decided he had pericarditis. which is inflamed outer lining of his heart.. so yesturday had to call and make a appt with a pediatric cardiologist in saginaw. which is 2 1/2 hrs away.. he did a ekg and said it was normal yesturday day so that was good news.. and from the cardiac ultrasound he said there wasnt any fluid around his heart and looked good. so my son hasnt been to school since monday. my poor son, he is on the swim team and there end of year big 2 day swim meets was this weekend and he cant swim it.. plus he is one of the faster swimmers on the team.

I am just greatful he is doing better.. and not in pain anymore and getting better..

pretty scary..
WHEW! I am glad he's ok. Yes that is so scary. To see so many young men these days dropping dead while playing sports over an unknown heart condition. I am glad he said something and you took it very seriously, very quickly.

Had that here this after noon. All the snow that had drifted east, then turned and drifted west. Then rain. Oh. Joy.

TC, you can catch Olive on rare ocassions these days.

Thanks Nova, and to those others who responded

Sorry you guys are all getting such muckle wather out there. We had rain today, and wind, but it's really very warm, almost 40 I think. I had to go and show a property - I wish folks would let me know before I make the journey that they can't afford it. I'm fed up with people asking me if I'll "work" with them. This is my job, just like other people have jobs. Sorry for the rant. It wouldn't have been so bad but I hate driving in this wather.
